An indoor climbing facility with two locations in North Carolina is making moves into Richmond. Triangle Rock Club will open a 24,000-square-foot indoor rock climbing gym at 4700 Thalbro Street, near the Willow Lawn area, later this year. No opening date has been announced.

The facility will include 5,000 square feet of bouldering terrain, 8,000 square feet of top rope and lead climbing area, and state-of-the-art features like Walltopia climbing walls and a Hydraulic Systems Wall with climbing angles reaching 45 degrees. There will also be a separate climbing area for programs and professional instruction.

In addition, Triangle Rock Club will feature locker rooms and showers, plus a sauna, steam room, and hot tub. A 2,400-square-foot fitness center will feature cardio machines, free weights, and more. There will also be a dedicated yoga room and “gear shop” for customers’ climbing needs. The building was used for similar purposes in the past as Richmond Athletic Club.

A second phase is already being planned for 2018. Owners say the future additions will include increased height walls up to 45 feet and new walls for a grand total of 15,000 square foot of climbing terrain. When complete, the facility will be the second largest indoor climbing center in the state of Virginia.

Triangle Rock Club currently has locations in Morrisville, North Raleigh, and Fayetteville.
