Enrichmond Earth Day Celebration changing format from festival to day of service

For the last few years Richmond has had two Earth Day Festivals. This past year Enrichond’s Earth Day Festival was at Shiplock Park and had all the activities you’d expect. Information on the environment, advocates, and the usual food, music, and beverages. This year the Enrichmond Earth Day Celebration is switching thing up and focusing less on having a party and more on getting out there and getting stuff done.

Full Press Release:

The Enrichmond Foundation proudly presents its 24th Earth Day Richmond Celebration, Central Virginia’s premiere and longest running Earth Day event. The event will take place on Saturday, April 22nd and for 2017 we have developed a new format in preparation for something special. Instead of a single event, our Partner and Friend groups will lead volunteers in a Day of Service at green spaces throughout the City. This year’s celebration offers a preview of 2018, as we expand our festivities to make the 25th Earth Day one the biggest and best yet!

The event’s planned evolution will include some changes to how we have celebrated this special day in the past. Over the last two decades we have produced a single festival in a single location. As issues facing our global environment persist, we feel strongly our greatest impact will come from affecting change at multiple locations.

Starting this year, Enrichmond and our partners will extend the Earth Day Richmond Celebration into the communities most engaged with their surrounding environments. Our Partner and Friend organizations have long been the unsung heroes of Richmond’s public spaces and we are thrilled to bring Earth Day into their own backyards. With support from the City of Richmond and Richmond Community ToolBank, Partner groups throughout Richmond will hit the ground running in a Day of Service on April 22nd. We look forward to seeing and celebrating the impact we can have on our environment when we partner together to make a difference.

Every day is Earth Day! Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more great Earth Day tips, fun facts on our local environment, and details of the upcoming 24th Earth Day Richmond Celebration.
