SPAMALOT clip-clopping onto the VCU stage in April
It’s not just a flesh wound it’s a musical production that will make your heart beat faster than an unladen swallow’s wings.
TheatreVCU is proud to announce the opening of Monty Python’s Spamalot on April 14, 2017 at the Raymond Hodges Theatre in the W.E. Singleton Performing Arts Center. The production will run through April 30, 2017. Lovingly ripped off from the 1975 cult classic, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot turns the elaborate traditional Arthurian legend on its head and instead revels in the absurd as we follow Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table on an epic quest to find the Holy Grail. From sorcerers named Tim to shrubbery loving Knights of Ni, Spamalot has all the charm of the classic motion picture while providing new laughs and musical numbers along the way.
At the helm of TheatreVCU’s production of Spamalot is actor, director, and VCU professor Kikau Alvaro. New to the area Alvaro comes from California where he has acted in such productions as Up Here at La Jolla Playhouse and West Side Story with San Diego Musical Theatre. As a director/choreographer, Kikau has worked on a variety of projects ranging from classic to contemporary theatre. Since moving to Richmond, Alvaro has entrenched himself in the local theatre community. He is currently on the Artistic Committee at Richmond Triangle Players and will soon bring his talents to Virginia Reparatory Theatre rendition of In the Heights over the summer. Spamalot will be Alvaro’s directing debut at TheatreVCU.
