A local nonprofit dedicated to seeing that families experiencing homelessness have a place to get back up on their feet is transforming The Hippodrome into a 1920s nightclub next weekend for a good cause.

Housing Families First will host their third annual winter gala, “A Night At The Theatre” on Saturday, March 4th. This year’s theme, “A Return to the Jazz Age,” is a nod to the historic Jackson Ward theatre. Tickets are $100 and proceeds help homeless families find permanent housing.

Richmond legends Doc Branch and Cab Calloway–two musicians who once performed at The Hippodrome–will be featured at the gala.

Period cocktail attire, from pinstriped suits to flapper dresses (black tie is optional), is encouraged.

Housing Families First supported more than 243 children and adults in 2016, most of whom were placed in permanent housing within 30 days. A year later, more than 85% of said families are still back up on their feet after receiving services, according to the organization’s stats.
