Richmond City Council members, some of them voting for the last time during their term, voted to approve a long-term lease of City Stadium to the Richmond Kickers Monday evening at City Hall. With many members of the Red Army in attendance in the council chambers, council unanimously approved plans for the lease and over $20 million in upgrades to the facility.

The agreement means the Kickers would be responsible for all maintenance, utilities, and taxes while paying a modest fee to lease the stadium from the city.

The term of the lease is 40 years, over which time the team would upgrade the stadium in three phases through 2050.
