Glen Allen home takes $50,000 top prize on ABC’s “Great Christmas Light Fight”
The Thompsons took home the $50,000 top prize for their home, “Christmas On Wendhurst.”
Update:
The Thompson family took home the top prize of $50,000 Monday night on ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight,” beating out several other homes across the country. Asked by the RTD what the couple plans to do with the money, Al Thompson says he plans to give 10% to their church and the rest to his wife “who has put up with me and all my craziness for 48 years.” They also plan to take a trip to Israel.

Original (12/9/16):
A Glen Allen couple whose home has been featured on numerous national television shows will be in the spotlight once again on Monday, December 12th. Al and Esther Thompson, who have been lighting up their home each holiday season with over 170,000 lights, will be featured on ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight” Monday night at 9:00 PM.
The two will compete with other homeowners for a $50,000 top prize and bragging rights. The Thompsons’ home is a favorite among the homes on the tour and unique in that all of the decorations used are completely homemade. Each year their display draws gridlock traffic into the otherwise quiet neighborhood.
You can view the highly illuminated home for yourself at 9716 Wendhurst Drive, just off of Springfield Road in the West End, through New Year’s Day.
