Dominion Christmas Parade returns to spread holiday cheer Saturday morning
The 33rd annual parade begins at the Science Museum of Virginia and runs east down Broad Street into downtown.
Santa’s most trusted helper will serve as the official master of ceremonies for the 33rd annual Richmond Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 3rd, organizers announced. Buddy The Elf will spread Christmas cheer at the beloved Richmond event coming up this weekend.
Buddy will be in town early in advance of “Elf The Musical” playing at Altria Theater for five performances starting Friday, December 9th.
“Buddy the Elf has a tenacious spirit that embodies the true meaning of Christmas,” said Beth Karrer, parade chair. “We couldn’t be more thrilled that he’ll be joining us to kick off the Dominion Christmas Parade.”
This year’s parade theme is “Christmas at the Movies” and will feature characters from well-known films such as “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “Polar Express,” “Star Wars,” “Angry Birds,” “The Lego Movie,” and more. Check out the full parade lineup here.
Nearly 100 participants will fill out the parade route including the Harlem Globetrotters; college marching bands from Virginia Military Institute, Virginia State University, and Hampton University; 11 giant helium balloons; and Richmond’s own Legendary Santa to close out the parade.
Here’s hoping there won’t be any inflatable casualties this year. (In 2010, Rudolph was impaled by a traffic light and met his demise at Meadow Street–never forget). I know, I just had to go there.
