In this season of goodwill, one Richmond grocer is giving back to one of the area’s most well-known food insecurity programs. Kroger is teaming up with FeedMore to cover the cost of Thanksgiving meals for nearly 900 homebound residents in FeedMore’s Meals on Wheels program. The company is also giving back to Meals on Wheels volunteers by handing out gas cards that are redeemable at Kroger’s fueling stations.

Thanksgiving meals will be distributed to Meals On Wheels recipients on 92 routes throughout Richmond on Wednesday, November 23rd. Kroger donated the full cost of the special holiday meal–which includes roast turkey and gravy, cornbread stuffing, honey glazed carrots, green beans amandine, pumpkin pie, a whole wheat roll and cranberry sauce–saving FeedMore $3,000.

Additionally, to offset the cost of fuel and show thanks for their generosity, every Meals on Wheels volunteer driver during the week of Thanksgiving will receive a Kroger gift card.  The average Meals on Wheels driver follows a 13-mile route that takes roughly 55 minutes to complete. Each will receive a $10 gift card towards their fuel needs.

Kroger stores have donated more than 746,068 meals to FeedMore through a variety of initiatives since 2014.
