NBC12 clip goes viral after anchor tells viewers to “check your panties”
Proof that one letter, in this case a missing “R,” can change everything.
One letter can change things completely. That’s what NBC12 anchor Eric Philips learned Wednesday morning after a typo in his teleprompter script led to a hilarious on-air flub.
Philips was reading a story about recalled rice cookers. The script began with the words, “Check your panties,” when “pantries” is what was intended–the “R” was left out. Co-anchor Karla Redditte immediately began cracking up after Philips read the misspelled script saying, “I couldn’t warn you before I saw it, Eric. I’m so sorry” between laughs. Philips, the professional that he is, continued to read the story and kept his composure through the entire ordeal, as you can see in full below. Knowing immediately that the clip would go viral, meteorologist Andrew Frieden walks over and says, “I just want to say hello to the Internet.”
The clip has been picked up by news sites nationally and overseas, and made NBC’s Today Show Thursday morning.
NBC12’s Drew Wilder got in on the fun Wednesday evening with an “investigative report” into the clip, complete with an informative graph of rice cooking times, which showed that “your panties” take by far the longest to cook rice.
“Remember to check your panties… and your spelling,” Wilder says.
