State Fair of Virginia

It’s the last weekend to enjoy the State Fair of Virginia! The annual celebration of all things Virginia including rides, delicious artery-clogging food, craft beer, live music from big name artists, state agriculture and more returns to The Meadow Event Park for a 10 day run that opens today. Halloween Haunt at Kings Dominion

Just down the road from the State Fair, Halloween Haunt gets underway at Kings Dominion this weekend. Now in its 16th year, the festival of all things frightful and haunted has more scares in store than ever. This year guests can enjoy nine mazes, six scare zones, and several live shows. More than 20 rides will also be open across the theme park.

Bark In The Park

Henrico Recreation and Parks is teaming up with the Henrico Humane Society for the 9th annual Bark in the Park event this Saturday. Bring your best furry friend for a day of fun-filled family activities. An expo of local vendors will be on hand providing various products and services for your pets. There will also be dog contests, music, children’s activities and more.

While admission is free for the event there is a $25 registration fee for the 5K Dog Walk ($10 for kids 6-12, kids 5 and under and dogs are free). All proceeds benefit Henrico Humane Society. To register for the dog walk go online to Concessions will be available for purchase.

2nd Street Festival

The Streets of Jackson Ward will come alive this weekend for the 2nd Street Festival. The 2nd Street Festival takes place the first full weekend in October. Since 1988, the festival has become one of the Mid-Atlantic’s largest street festivals. Nearly 50,000 people visit historic Jackson Ward to reminisce about the days when 2nd Street was the heart and soul of Richmond’s African American community. Enjoy live jazz, R&B, fashion shows, gospel music, and a children’s area, plus performances by community groups on four stages. There will also be a marketplace, food trucks and vendors, and more.

Hogtober 2016

Barbecue, bands, and beer will take over historic Libby Hill Park on Saturday for Hogtober 2016. Expect a variety of barbecue vendors and lots of tasty craft beer overlooking the picturesque city skyline. The event, put on by Style Weekly, will benefit the Church Hill Association.
