The RVA Beard League are a group of guys and gals that are dedicated to developing creative and in some cases massive facial hair.

There are  competitions all across the country and these folks devote countless hours not only to grooming but to traveling and competing. It all comes do to this week with the Great American Beard and Moustache Championships.

Richmond will be well represented with the six competitors you see above.

RVA Sends 6 to National Beard Competition

The RVA Beard League is proud to send 6 local competitors to the biggest stage- The 2016 Great American Beard and Moustache Championships.  Chad Roberts, Amy Roberts, Patrick Quinn, Katie Quinn, Josh Black, and Johnathan Wakefield will all be heading to the Centennial State at the end of the month for the largest charity facial hair competition the U.S. has ever seen.  The event will feature 21 categories, including 2 where women can get creative and craft their own designs (competitors recognized as Whiskerinas).

“It’s a great opportunity to compete against ladies from all over the world,” Amy Roberts says “It’s also great that this competition has included women, which has never happened in a National or World level previously.”

Chad Roberts, President of the RVA Beard League, is also the President of the North American Competitive Beard and Moustache Alliance (The Alliance), and will serve as a judge for this event.

“There has been so much work put into this by so many people- it’s great to see it come to fruition,” Chad says. “We are taking the best ideas from clubs all over the Nation and rolling it into one amazing event.”

This event is 5 years in the making, and will draw competitors from all over the world.  Friendly rivalries aside, the charities are the real winners at this event.  The Fisher House (to whom the RVA Beard League donated $15,000 to the local chapter at the 2016 Mid-Atlantic Beard and Moustache Championships) as well as the Rocky Mountain Cancer Assistance will be the recipients of ALL proceeds of this huge event.

“The local/regional competitions we attend give back, but this is a great way to come together and do something big for a local charity and a national one at the same time,” says League VP Josh Black. “All social and competitive aspects aside, the philanthropic aspect is what really brings it home, and we can’t wait to represent Richmond.”

When they’re not working on their beards they are working with various local charities to raise funds.  Most recently they worked with local businesses to collect massive donation of school supplies. If you’ve got an inclination for increasing your facial hair density and doing some good for the community check them out at RVA Beard League. Who knows maybe next year you’ll be on your way to the championship.
