Pony Pasture Pickers Picking Up Proliferating Problematic Litter

The number of James River Park users has been recording-breaking this year. With that good news comes the bad, more trash in our parks. A group of volunteers is working to help keep the parks clean.

Pony Pasture Pickers is a newly formed neighborhood group in the Stratford Hills area created to support litter removal from the Pony Pasture and Wetlands areas of the James River Park System. Neighbors and regular park users are invited to “adopt a section” of the park to check up on when they visit the park using their own trash pickers and bags.

Even in the past month, neighbors have already noticed a decline in the amount of litter located in the park. Research about littering shows that if there is less litter in an area, visitors are less likely to litter.

If you are interested in joining the effort to conserve and preserve the natural beauty of our local parks, please join up on the Facebook group here.

H/T to Sarah Fought for letting us know about the effort.
