Photos: Lionsbridge FC Win Over AC Commonwealth

Kickers soccer has been delayed until August. College soccer is canceled but we’ve got to get our footie fix so we headed out to the peninsula.

We were desperate from sports so our intrepid photog Suzanne Velasco headed to down to Yorktown to catch a Lionsbridge FC game.

Lionsbridge Football Club, or Lionsbridge FC, is an American soccer club based out of the Virginia Peninsula, which comprises the cities of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, and York and James City counties. The club was founded in 2017, and play in USL League Two. Richmond Kickers play in USL League One.

This was Lionsbridge’s second game of the season. On Friday they recorded their top offensive output in club history, with an 8-0 thumping against Partizan Richmond.

Sunday Lionsbridge faced off against AC Commonwealth out of Hampton Roads. It was a steamy, weather-delayed game and Lionsbridge FC came out on top with a 2-0 win. Check out the highlights on Facebook. Lionbridge’s next match is this Friday on the road against Virginia Beach United. Then back for a home game at their temporary Covid-19 home Bailey Field on Saturday, July 25th vs Levi United (Greenville NC). Due to limited seating, it is recommended you purchase tickets ahead of the match.

Least you wonder about a Richmond connection, Lionsbridge draws players from our area including midfielder #5 Simon Fitch. Shaun Russel for AC Commonwealth played for the Richmond Kickers for a half-season. Richmond Kickers visited Bailey Field last year for a friendly and won 5-0.
