Jackson Ward restaurant Salt & Forge has been hard at work, not only making sandwiches, but developing plans to keep their team employed while also giving back to the community.

Salt & Forge launched the give “Give a Biscuit” campaign this week to deliver sandwiches to healthcare staff in the region. The restaurant makes and delivers one biscuit to frontline caregivers for every $5 donation received through its website. Supporters can visit saltandforge.com to select the option of donating a biscuit through the restaurant’s online ordering platform.

Aware of the hard work and sacrifices area caregivers are making, Salt and Forge thought about how they could use food as a source of comfort and a way to say thank you. “Give a Biscuit” was born as a way to do both. In the first 24 hours, enough funds were raised to make and deliver 56 biscuits.

Nurses Week takes place May 6 through 12 and there are high hopes. “Our goal is to gather enough funds to make and deliver over 500,  if not 1,000, biscuits during Nurses Week,” owner David Hahn said. Connections for additional support have already been made with several area organizations including FLAG RVA and RVA Legends.

“Give a Biscuit” isn’t the only campaign keeping staff busy. Last month they launched “Dining Without The Restaurant.” Using their food truck, Salt & Forge has brought restaurant-quality meals to Richmond area neighborhoods with 100 percent contactless ordering and pickup.

Through these campaigns, as well as delivery and carryout, Salt & Forge has been able to keep its team employed.

From Facebook this morning we learned that Salt and Forge delivered 60 biscuits to McGuire Hospital ER and COVID units. They’ve received over 120 biscuit donations so far.
