Quick Facts
- After hatching, the ducklings climb to the opening of the nest cavity, jump down from the nest tree and make their way to water. The mother calls them to her, but does not help them in any way.
- The day after they hatch, the young climb to the nest entrance and jump to the ground. The ducklings can swim and find their own food by this time.
- In 2013, the Royal Canadian Mint created two coins to commemorate the wood duck.
- These birds feed by dabbling or walking on land. Dabbling means to search for food from the surface of the water, as opposed to diving underneath the surface to scavenge for food.
- The birds are year-round residents in parts of its southern range, but the northern populations migrate south for the winter.

Jasmine at RACC

We don’t know much about Jasmine’s life before coming to us at RACC, but based on her thinness and hair loss, it’s a safe bet that it wasn’t a very good one…
Jasmine is still learning how to trust humans again, and while she has warmed up and made friends with the staff – becoming the sweetest little lady you could ever meet – she still needs time to warm up to strangers. She needs time to get to know you before she trusts you, and she seems to be extra wary of men in particular. However, when introduced to someone new, by someone she trusts and with the aid of treats, Jasmine comes around rather quickly. As soon as the new friend engages in fetch with her, she realizes you are her friend and she’s happy to keep playing. Seriously, she’s like a Labrador Retriever when it comes to fetch! Jasmine also likes other dogs, but we haven’t put her in a play group yet due to her sensitive skin.
She’s currently being treated for demodex mange (which is the cause of her hairloss), it is not contagious to people or other animals. She is on her way to well, we are just waiting for her hair to grow back in.
If you are looking for a little lady with a lot of character, charm, and sweetness, ask to meet Jasmine!
