Tuesday Meeting to Discuss South of the James Farmers Market
Those concerned about the impact of the South of the James Farmers Market are encouraged to attend the Forest Hill Neighborhood Association meeting (Forest Hill Presbyterian Church 4401 Forest Hill Ave), November 19th at 7 pm.
The South of the James Farmers Market is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. It is also a victim of its own success. Issues with parking and crowds have left some neighbors not as pro-market as others. There will be a meeting this Tuesday to talk about the requirements that the market agreed to and how current issues can be addressed.
More from Councilperson Kristen Larson:
As the South of the James (SOTJ) farmers market in Forest Hill Park has continued to attract more visitors, neighboring residents have raised concerns related to the market’s use of the park and its impact on the neighborhood. There is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between GrowRVA, the market’s operator, and the city of Richmond that stipulates conditions for parking, the number of vendors, and protection of trees, among other things. It is important that we continue to have conversations about the market to ensure its viability and value for our community. If you have concerns you’d like to share, please join us at the Forest Hill Neighborhood Association meeting (Forest Hill Presbyterian Church 4401 Forest Hill Ave), November 19th at 7 pm to discuss this MOU with representatives from the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities and GrowRVA. If you cannot make the meeting, but would like to offer feedback, please email my office.
