I scream you scream we all scream for gelato, which while similar to ice cream and starts out with a similar custard base as ice cream, has a higher proportion of milk and a lower proportion of cream and eggs (or no eggs at all).

Uptown Market (2400 W. Main St.) went away and now we know it’s Moon Rocks Gelato coming in.

Richmond BizSense.com has all the delicious details:

Behind Moon Rocks is Ali Alasker, a former VCU student and local food industry veteran.

“It’ll be gelato with a twist,” Alasker said. “There are a lot of ice cream stores in the area down near the Fan and VCU, but there’s not a whole lot of gelato in Richmond, period.”

In addition to gelato and gelato shakes, Alasker said Moon Rocks also will offer waffles with various toppings.

They hope to be open later this month.
