Arcade Weekend – Hardywood, Saturday and Sunday
Bingo Brewing, COTU, Champion, and Strangeways all have video games and pinball machines. This weekend Hardywood is flexing its arcade muscles by bringing in 20 games and unlike the other joints these games will be on free play. The first year they did this there weren’t the other options so the lines to play were ridiculous. I don’t think that will be an issue this year.
Come one, come all, it’s a full weekend of pinball and arcade games at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery – Richmond!
20 different games will be on free play *all weekend long* in the new Barrel Room space.
Pithy in Pink Release – Ardent and Stone, Thursday (today)
🍻 We’re so excited for the release of Pithy in Pink, a Pink Boots Society white IPA with grapefruit and coriander!
👩👩👧👧 On International Women’s Day, we hosted some amazing women from all across Virginia to brew Pithy in Pink in collaboration with Stone Brewing Richmond and Pink Boots Society- Richmond Chapter, which helps to assist, inspire, and encourage women beer professionals through education.
Pegasus Double IPA – Final Gravity, Friday
Final Gravity’s newest Double IPA delivers a mystical blend of pineapple, citrus, and fresh pine that will send your tastebuds soaring. Much like the legend that everywhere the winged horse struck his hoof to the earth, an inspiring spring burst forth – you’ll indeed be inspired by the surge of flavor from the Falconer’s Flight hops emerging from the golden haze within your glass. Available by the glass, growler, and Crowler.
Upstate Swankey Collaboration Beer Release – Center of the Universe, Saturday
When Nathan Landers of Center of the Universe Brewing and Gabe Slagle of Fine Creek Brewing Company met a few weeks back, they got to talking… Fellow history buffs and brewers of fantastic beer, the guys decided to collaborate on a brew featuring a style long lost to the history books: The Albany Ale.
This collaboration beer, Upstate Swankey, is amber in color with delicate aromas of caramel, nuts, and light breadiness. The local malt sourced from Murphy & Rude Malting Co. is balanced by mild bitterness from old school Cluster hops, and the beer was fermented with London Ale Yeast. Clocking in at just over 7% ABV, this beer will make you see why Albany was once the epicenter of the brewing industry.
Upstate Swankey will be available at both breweries for a special limited release on Saturday, April 6th!
Isley Peach Sour – Isley, Saturday
Join us Saturday April 6 at Isley Brewing Company for a new beer release!
“Isley Peach Sour”
Peach infused Kettle Soured Blonde Ale
6.5% ABV | 10.5 IBUs
A simple blonde ale, soured in the kettle, and infused with a TON of fresh, yellow peach puree. A slight funk from the souring process, followed by the aroma and flavor of ripe, yellow peaches, and finishing with a solid, sour bite!
RVA Beer Explorer: Tour De Quy, Cream Ale, Pineapple Whip
It’s 4th of July Weekend and it looks like all the breweries are throwing in the event towel so the focus this week is on new releases and one special bike ride.
GO DO THIS
5th Annual Tour De Quy Bike Ride on the Capital Trail
July 1st, 9AM
I didn’t know Quy Pham but this is a wonderful way to honor the man.
On June 30, it will be 3 years since we lost our dear friend, Quy Pham. It’s difficult to find a proper way to honor the ones we miss but his friends felt we could do something to celebrate his memory. Join us in a ride from 4 Mile Creek Park on the Capital Trail starting at 9 am for a bike ride. All paces welcome and choose your own distance to ride.
A faster group of riders is planning to ride 55 miles total but feel free to shorten the route as needed and just have fun. There is a restaurant called Cul’s Courthouse Grille right on the trail across the street from the Charles City Courthouse. Stop in for lunch and beverages before heading back to 4 Mile Creek Park. If you make it to Charles City your ride will be around 38 miles.
Back at Final Gravity Brewing Co we will release #55 Hazy IPA also on Friday so stop in for a beer.
Cream Ale Release at all Hardywood locations
July 1st, 2-10PM
I hear that some folks like the cream ales. For those of you that have garbage tastebuds enjoy. I’ll be over here drinking my hazy, strawberry mango, blueberry, vanilla IPA with a hint of pine.
We’re excited to bring a special release back to our taprooms of Hardywood Cream Ale!
In 1935, Richmond, Virginia made beer history as the first place ever to sell canned beer, a cream ale from Krueger Brewing Company. A tribute to the original canned beer, Hardywood Cream Ale is an unfiltered example of the style that embraces its east coast roots with an unbelievably smooth body and a refreshingly clean finish from extended cold conditioning in our lagering tanks. Raise a can to RVA, where the canned beer revolution began!
WC Food Trucks: 1115 Mobile Kitchen
WC Music: Justin Trawick and the Common Good at 6pm
RVA Food: Hardywood Pizza Kitchen open 2-9:30pm
RVA Music: Three Chord Truth at 6pm
Pineapple Whip Release at Center of the Universe
July 2nd, 12PM
Pineapple is a tricky fruit when added to other things. It could be awesome or could be overly sweet. Head up 95 to see where this beer lands.
Join us for the release of a new found favorite, the Pineapple Whip! Like a tropical vacation for your mouth, this collaboration between Center of the Universe and Origin Beer Lab will take you on a flavor vacation with stops at Pineapple Island and Vanilla Bean Beach. Crack open a slice of paradise and get swept away!
16oz 4-Pack Cans and Draft Available
The beer news was an easy pick this week. What I found interesting was the comment on the Stone Bistro we were promised when Stone first announced their move to Richmond.
Asked the latest regarding Stone’s bistro plans for Richmond, Monahan said the bistro was not in their immediate plans and pointed to a food trailer Stone recently began operating at the brewery as a food option.

Kölschfest at Triple Crossing Fulton
June 19th, 12-9 PM, $10
This event was a big hit last time and I’m sure it will be again. Space is limited so time your arrival carefully and/or be patient about a little wait time.
On the day, June 19th, you will make your way into our Fulton event space just beyond the double doors at the back of the tasting room. We will have one of our team members posted at the door to sell coasters, food tickets, provide information about how it all works, and to send you off into the wild to grab a seat at one of the tables after the purchase of one or many…probably many coasters.
Special Kölsch Festival coasters will be sold for $10.00/each and include 4 x 200ml Kölsch Stange pours. As you begin to empty your first of the day lager-like ale (brought to you with care by our staff in our incredibly difficult to source Kölsch wreaths or “Kranz”) you then have a choice to make.
If you place your empty Stange on the table and DO NOT cover your glass with your coaster, our servers will, without the need for any verbal exchange, bring you another fresh Kölsch pour and mark your coaster for each pour accordingly. Should you not want any further service between full pours, simply place your coaster on top of your glass, and our staff will know that you are for then at least, all done. Given the unique and highly efficient level of service this method provides, one can see that these coasters are important to the process and will be the only way you can partake in the festivities.
Some important notes:
-Only Kölsch will be poured in our event space for Kölsch Festival, other beers will be poured as normal in our tasting room.
-Kölsch Festival will operate on a first come, first serve basis. This will not be a ticketed event; your purchased coaster gets you 4 pours for $10.00.
-Additional coasters can be purchased throughout the festival (12pm-8pm).
-The festival will be limited to a capacity of ~ 150 people at any one time
-Food options/menu are still forthcoming.
That’s all for now, but rest assured, more details to follow in the coming week.
Some bullshit to report. How about the racist douchebags stay out of my favorite brewery? In fact, stay out of all the breweries and society in general until you learn that there is no place for you in this country.

Cinema by the Creek: Space Jam! at Hardywood Westcreek
May 27th, 8-10 PM
Don’t worry it’s the old Space Jam! not that new abomination. That’s all Folks.
Cinema by the Creek is back for the 2022 season and we’re kicking things off with 90’s sports classic throwback, Space Jam.
Swackhammer (Danny DeVito), an evil alien theme park owner, needs a new attraction at Moron Mountain. When his gang, the Nerdlucks, heads to Earth to kidnap Bugs Bunny (Billy West) and the Looney Tunes, Bugs challenges them to a basketball game to determine their fate. The aliens agree, but they steal the powers of NBA basketball players, including Larry Bird (Larry Bird) and Charles Barkley (Charles Barkley) — so Bugs gets some help from superstar Michael Jordan (Michael Jordan).
This is a free and family-friendly event! Join us on the West Creek lawn for a fun evening of an outdoor movie paired with a great beer!
WC FOOD TRUCK: 1. Smokery Pl.
Castleburg’s Sixth Anniversary!!
May 28th, 2-10 PM
This is a brewery I don’t give enough credit to. Their beer has steadily improved and they host a ton of local groups. Great to see them hit their 6th Anniversary.
We’re turning six!!! Come celebrate the entrance into this new year of Castleburg Brewery with us!
-We’re bringing back our Six Fingered Man Sour Ale w/ Blackberry and Lime! Get it? Six Year Anniversary? Six Fingered Man? We think we’re clever.
*Six Fingered Man is heavy on the malted wheat and a big helping of milk sugar giving this 3.3% ABV sour a full body. Our signature kettle souring technique and the addition of both blackberry and lime provides an approachable tartness and fruity finish. Prepare to… drink.*
-We will also have cider! Our friends over at Old Town Cidery of Winchester, VA will have their Pippin hard cider on! This cider is a single varietal of the Ablemarle Pippin, an apple grown by Thomas Jefferson. More of a fine wine, with a sharp, dry finish. 6.9% ABV
-Big Fundamental will be performing in the taproom at 7pm, with Midnite Taxi and Whitney & the Saying Goes
Seems like this would be a no-brainer but I guess it needs to be said out loud.
Dahmer, Kemper, Gacy, and Ramirez collectively killed at least 80 people. The horrors they committed are only a generation behind us—Kemper is still alive in prison in California—and victims’ families are constantly retraumatized by the continued commodification of these killers’ likenesses. To take these figures’ legacies of violence, sanitize them, strip them of context, and turn a profit is to delegitimize the suffering they’ve caused.
Beyond these very good reasons to not use a serial killer’s face to sell any product, craft beer has all the more reason to avoid this kind of marketing. This is an industry that, exactly a year ago, experienced a large-scale reckoning where dozens of people came forward with stories of sexual misconduct and abuse. The Murder Box stands as a signal that, despite any progress made in the past year, there are still sections of the beer industry that remain untouched and unconcerned.
