Dick Butt Kiss & The Tightends, with Special Guest Mark Slomski – Castleburg, Friday

I admit I know nothing about this show but the name made me snicker like a school-boy so I knew I had to share it. Judging from the description it looks to be a slightly offensive good time.

Saddle up, and get ready for the Funky Butt Lovin Dick Butt Kiss and the Tightends, Live at Castleburg Brewery. With special guest Mark Slomski.

These boys ain’t messing ’round. If you are easily offended, or faint of heart, this show is not for you. If you’re into funny, outrageous, uncensored, original comedic songs, then come on out and give these guys a listen. You may have trouble hearing over your own laughter though.

Brewery Tour – Väsen, Saturday

Most brewery tours are pretty much the same. The real value is getting to talk to the folks that make the beer. Finding out the philosophy of the men and women making your beer will often help you understand what you find in your glass out in the tasting room.

Ever wondered about the process behind our beers? Unsure if you know what brettanomyces means? Curious what we are brewing up in those beautiful white oak foeders?

If you want to see it all, we’ll pull back the curtains for you. Each Saturday at 12:30 PM you can get a behind the scenes tour led by a member of the Väsen team.

Our tour is $5.00 per person and includes a guided exploration of our brewery and barrel room as well as two (2) 4 oz. pours of any of our beers that are currently on draft.

Ask your bartender for more information. Reservations not required.

Kōyō Release – Ardent, Thursday

Kōyō is a Japanese-style rice lager brewed in collaboration with Elation Brewing from Norfolk. This is a delicate, pale-yellow lager with a crisp, clean body and balanced hop character from the addition of Zuper Saazer hops. Kōyō is a dry, light lager with minimal bitterness and subtle rice flavor.

3.8% ABV • 12 IBU
Draft only + crowler/growler fills

Lithia DIPA Release – Basic City Brewing, Thursday

The cult classic is back- LIthia DIPA.

Bathe your palate in this sentiment: a dip into the past where alchemy thrived and natures magic could still transmute our spirits. This 7.6%ABV NEIPA brewed with “alchemist” yeast & Shenandoah Valley Spring water will be sure to remedy inhibitions.

Limited 16oz 4pk & Draft

Morning Glory Double IPA Release – Final Gravity, Friday

Morning Glory Double IPA is Final Gravity’s newest release and is also our debut of the elusive Cashmere hops. Dry-hopped with Cashmere with a late addition of Azacca – Morning Glory blossoms with aromas of cantaloupe, candied orange slices, and subtle coconut. On the palate you’ll gather flavors of creamy peach, tropical fruits, and sweet lime. At 8% ABV, this will be the perfect brew to relax into your weekend. Available by the glass and in Crowlers.

Stiftung Beer Release – Gluten Reduced! – Intermission, Friday

Stiftung is a Blood Orange IPA brewed in collaboration with Schnabel Engineering.
This is our FIRST Gluten Reduced beer!
This sunset colored IPA blends the taste of blood orange with floral and citrus hops. Hopped with Simcoe, Amarillo, and Cascade.
6.8% abv, 65 ibu

Bald Irishman Beer Release – Center of the Universe, Saturday

Bald Irishman is an Irish Red Ale brewed with 5 different malts and a whole lotta love! Brewed for our Satellite club fundraisers, dubbed the “El Balderinos” 10% of the proceeds from this brew will go to support the St. Baldrick’s foundation, an organization which provides life-saving research for children with cancer.

Last year, we took home gold at World Beer Cup in category 87, Irish-Style Red Ale, for “The Bald Irishman”. Brewed with Maris Otter, Malted Oats, Black Prinz, CaraRed, C90 malts, Irish Ale Yeast, and Cluster hops, this beer is balanced all the way through with a slightly drying finish. Aromas of toasted grains evoke thoughts of graham cracker and delicate notes of toffee and berry skins entice you to breathe in deeply as you take another sip.

We couldn’t be more proud of our team and are fortunate to be surrounded by incredibly hard working and talented brewers/cellarmen that share our commitment to improving and advancing our beer. The team has worked hard to revamp our processes and make this a truly collaborative environment, and it is a great for them be recognized on such a global stage.

RVA Beer Explorer’s Last Call

The RVA Beer Explorer is sailing off into the sunset but hopefully, you’ll like its fuzzy replacement.

The RVA Beer Explorer is throwing in his beer-soaked towel. The number of breweries and the beer scene of Richmond is awesome. Over the years for health reasons (nothing dramatic just self-realization about my intake) I’ve become less and less part of that awesome beer scene. As a result, I don’t have the passion needed to keep writing about beer every week so it’s time to say goodbye. RVAHub will continue to cover the big beer events and they’ll show up in their respective neighborhood areas or on the main site. We wouldn’t want you to miss out on some of the more unique events that pop-up.

Later today I’ll launch my new weekly post Critters of the Week. It will feature a picture and information about a wild animal spotted in the RVA area and an animal up for adoption by SPCA or RACC.

To my loyal readers out there I thank you for spending time with me each week and putting up with my many, many typos.
