Secretly Y’all presents: (em/im)MIGRATION – Ardent Craft Ales, Monday

Oral history is an amazing window into other folks world views and lives. Next Monday is your chance to hear stories on immigration directly from those that have experienced it.

Currently, it’s estimated that 1 in every 8 Virginian was born outside of the US, how cool is that?
SY is excited to collaborate with the Library of Virginia for another special event, this one inspired by their current exhibition “New Virginians: 1619–2019 & Beyond.” We are seeking stories of the journeys that brought people here: what it meant to leave one place behind to come to a new one, and what had to be left behind in order to do so? What’s it like using English as a second or third language? How did you make a home, a job, a life here in this mid-Atlantic state, and why did you choose the Commonwealth of all places? Is there a difference between what it means to be American versus what it means to be a Virginian?

If you are a second, third (fourth?) generation member of an immigrant family, what made your home, upbringing, experiences unique from others you observed around you? Honestly y’all, how does this whole “23 and Me” attempt to claim exotic/foreign ancestry really shake out adjacent to the sitting US president wanting to build a wall to keep out people who’d like to immigrate here now?

If you have a story you would like us to consider please email us a short synopsis and a brief personal bio at [email protected] Since this is a special event, Storytellers will have up to 10 minutes to share their story. Please spread the word!!

Forever Reverie Tap Takeover & Gaming Marathon – The Circuit with Veil Brewing, Monday

Playing video games and drinking beer go hand-in-hand. This time it’s happening for a good cause.

This one-of-a-kind tap takeover will feature draft selections from Reverie Distribution’s portfolio including The Veil Brewing Co., The Answer Brewpub, and more! Enjoy tasting portions or full pours from our self-serve tap wall. Full tap list coming soon!

Bonds of Understanding + Understanding of Bonds – Ardent Craft Ales, Thursday

We’re so excited for this dual release of two barrel-fermented beers brewed in collaboration with our friends from Dssolvr! 🍻

We combined both of our house cultures to brew a saison, then aged that base beer independently in red and white wine barrels. This is a great opportunity to see how different barrels impact the same beer!

Draft and bottles of both beers will be released simultaneously. Try a glass of each, then take home bottles of your favorite!

🍺 Bonds of Understanding is an American wild ale fermented and aged in red wine Barrels. This collaboration between Ardent & DSSOLVR features grape must and stone fruit flavors, restrained acidity, and a well-rounded, oaky character. 6.6% ABV • 6 IBU

🍺 Understanding of Bonds is an American wild ale fermented and aged in white wine barrels. This collaboration between Ardent & DSSOLVR features toffee and vanilla notes, restrained acidity, and a bright, full body. 6.6% ABV • 6 IBU

Cashmere Secrets Release – Väsen Brewing, Thursday

Our secret will be out soon! Cashmere Secrets is our latest velvety smooth DIPA. We generously dry-hopped this farmhouse-style ale with Cashmere, Vic Secret, and Mosaic hops to make a deliciously hoppy brew with low bitterness and aromas of pineapple, peach, and raspberry.

Return | Kings, Crime & Punishment Scottish Strong Ale – Castleburg, Friday

You kept asking, and it’s finally back! However, it’s a small batch, so come and get it!!

A Scottish Strong Ale with notes of caramel, raisin, black cherries, chocolate and plums. Clocking in at 8.5% ABV, this is a potent brew, but very drinkable at 29 IBU’s.

Unity DDH Mosaic IPA – Three Notch’d RVA Collab House, Friday

Come to the Collab House and celebrate with us! All are welcome to share a pint of UNITY: our double dry hopped IPA, created with Three Notch’d RVA Collab House and Reason Beer, as we prepare for our grand opening next month! Come join for a pint of Unity!

Don’t worry it’s the old Space Jam! not that new abomination. That’s all Folks.

Cinema by the Creek is back for the 2022 season and we’re kicking things off with 90’s sports classic throwback, Space Jam.
Swackhammer (Danny DeVito), an evil alien theme park owner, needs a new attraction at Moron Mountain. When his gang, the Nerdlucks, heads to Earth to kidnap Bugs Bunny (Billy West) and the Looney Tunes, Bugs challenges them to a basketball game to determine their fate. The aliens agree, but they steal the powers of NBA basketball players, including Larry Bird (Larry Bird) and Charles Barkley (Charles Barkley) — so Bugs gets some help from superstar Michael Jordan (Michael Jordan).
This is a free and family-friendly event! Join us on the West Creek lawn for a fun evening of an outdoor movie paired with a great beer!
WC FOOD TRUCK: 1. Smokery Pl.

Castleburg’s Sixth Anniversary!!
May 28th, 2-10 PM

This is a brewery I don’t give enough credit to. Their beer has steadily improved and they host a ton of local groups. Great to see them hit their 6th Anniversary.

We’re turning six!!! Come celebrate the entrance into this new year of Castleburg Brewery with us!

-We’re bringing back our Six Fingered Man Sour Ale w/ Blackberry and Lime! Get it? Six Year Anniversary? Six Fingered Man? We think we’re clever.
*Six Fingered Man is heavy on the malted wheat and a big helping of milk sugar giving this 3.3% ABV sour a full body. Our signature kettle souring technique and the addition of both blackberry and lime provides an approachable tartness and fruity finish. Prepare to… drink.*

-We will also have cider! Our friends over at Old Town Cidery of Winchester, VA will have their Pippin hard cider on! This cider is a single varietal of the Ablemarle Pippin, an apple grown by Thomas Jefferson. More of a fine wine, with a sharp, dry finish. 6.9% ABV

-Big Fundamental will be performing in the taproom at 7pm, with Midnite Taxi and Whitney & the Saying Goes

Seems like this would be a no-brainer but I guess it needs to be said out loud.

Maybe Don’t Use Serial Killers in Your Craft Beer Marketing – The TakeOut

Dahmer, Kemper, Gacy, and Ramirez collectively killed at least 80 people. The horrors they committed are only a generation behind us—Kemper is still alive in prison in California—and victims’ families are constantly retraumatized by the continued commodification of these killers’ likenesses. To take these figures’ legacies of violence, sanitize them, strip them of context, and turn a profit is to delegitimize the suffering they’ve caused.

Beyond these very good reasons to not use a serial killer’s face to sell any product, craft beer has all the more reason to avoid this kind of marketing. This is an industry that, exactly a year ago, experienced a large-scale reckoning where dozens of people came forward with stories of sexual misconduct and abuse. The Murder Box stands as a signal that, despite any progress made in the past year, there are still sections of the beer industry that remain untouched and unconcerned.

Lilly Pad permit would limit live music volume, hours at Varina venue – Richmond BizSense

A provisional-use permit proposed for the restaurant and the larger Kingsland Marina would limit live music to certain hours and decibel levels, among other conditions that county staff is recommending after determining that the expanded restaurant had outgrown the parameters of a previous permit.

Three Notch’d Brewing to spill into adjacent space in Scott’s Addition – Richmond BizSense

Three Notch’d Brewing Co. is planning to expand its space at 2930 W. Broad St. to include the addition of a restaurant, according to documents filed with the city. The extra room came available after two adjacent spaces were recently left vacant by Red Goat Pizza and Richmond Wine Station.

How these Richmond craft breweries are supporting Ukraine through beer – RTD

After Russia invaded Ukraine, a Lviv craft brewery with the name of Pravda stopped making beer and started brewing Molotov cocktails.

Soon after, the brewer called on fellow brewers around the world to show solidarity with Ukraine by brewing one of Pravda’s beers for charity. Pravda, which is the Russian word for “truth,” made that possible by posting its recipes online.

Several Richmond craft breweries have joined the “Brew for Ukraine” initiative, which aims to raise money for humanitarian relief through sales of the beer and to call attention to the plight of Ukrainians.
