Meet The Artist of the Month: Makenna Faulk – Three Notch’d RVA Collab House, Friday

We are fortunate to be able to showcase some of the amazing talent in RVA and Makenna is no exception. Come on out Friday, November 30th from 630-8pm, grab a pint and meet our Nov Artist of the Month: Makenna. This will be your last chance to purchase one of her works before they come down at the end of the month. A great idea for unique Xmas gift. In the meantime stop in and check out her collection on display.

Grand Illumination – Legend Brewing, Friday

If the lights are your favorite part of Grand Illumination but don’t like the crowds you can just grab a beer and watch the skyline light up.

Richmond’s Downtown is lighting up for the holiday season! Illumination of lights and decorations will happen at 5:55pm. Come enjoy the Richmond Grand Illumination from the best view in town! Call ahead for reservations!

Handmade Holiday 2018 – Hardywood (Ownby Lane), Saturday & Sunday

We’re welcoming over 50 of the best crafters, artists, and makers for the city’s favorite holiday shopping event! Half of our vendors will be there on Saturday and Sunday, and half will be there for one day only, so be sure to stop by both days to see lots of amazing new art and gifts.

On Saturday, we will offer Early Bird hours to our shoppers at 10am.
**For a $5 donation to our non-profit partner Big Brothers Big Sisters, shoppers gain early access to our vendors.**

At 11am, the doors open to everyone for free. The show ends at 5pm. On Sunday we will not have Early Bird shopping. The show hours will be 11am-5pm on Sunday.

BEER NEWS

Strangeways Brewing is Expanding with 3rd Location in Richmond’s Scott’s Addition Neighborhood – Cheers Virgina

Strangeways Brewing has signed a lease in the heart of Scott’s Addition at 3110 West Leigh Street, marking its third brewery and tasting room facility in Virginia.

Strangeways will continue to operate its tasting room and private event facility at 2277A Dabney Road, and just last year opened a new facility in owner Neil Burton’s hometown of Fredericksburg, Virginia, at 350 Lansdowne Road.

Making it easier for tourists and locals alike to visit its facility while spending time in the densely packed local craft beverage and restaurant scene that Scott’s Addition is famous for was just one of the reasons owner Neil Burton gave for opening Strangeways’ new location. “We are excited to help play a part in Virginia’s local tourism economy, utilize as many local ingredients in beers and in snacks as we can, and employ more people,” said Burton.

Some Velvet Morning Double IPA Returns – Final Gravity, Friday

Columbus and Mosaic hops give life to this 8% DIPA that made its first appearance at Final Gravity’s 3rd Anniversary. The Jesus Mexican Hot Chocolate Imperial Stout Beer Release – Center of the Universe, Saturday

Bold, rich, and unabashedly expressive, our spicy Imperial Stout is no saint. Flavors of cayenne peppers, cinnamon, and a dash of vanilla blend to create a divine Mexican hot chocolate libation perfect for polishing balls and talking smack before the semis. This is no bush league, psych-out brew, because nobody………. with The Jesus!

The Jesus was constructed using Maris Otter, Carafa II, Carafa III, Double Roasted Crystal, C-90, Flaked Oats and Barley. Belgian Dark Candi Syrup, Cinnamon, and Habanero pepper round out the beer for a drinking experience like no other. Aromas of decadent chocolate, ganache, and holiday spices will excite your senses as the heat of the chiles warm you. At 11.4% ABV, you want to savor this beer as you sip. Let the chocolate and spice notes glide over your tongue like silk as you bask in the lingering spice and nice, long finish.

Castleburg’s Sixth Anniversary!!
May 28th, 2-10 PM

This is a brewery I don’t give enough credit to. Their beer has steadily improved and they host a ton of local groups. Great to see them hit their 6th Anniversary.

We’re turning six!!! Come celebrate the entrance into this new year of Castleburg Brewery with us!

-We’re bringing back our Six Fingered Man Sour Ale w/ Blackberry and Lime! Get it? Six Year Anniversary? Six Fingered Man? We think we’re clever.
*Six Fingered Man is heavy on the malted wheat and a big helping of milk sugar giving this 3.3% ABV sour a full body. Our signature kettle souring technique and the addition of both blackberry and lime provides an approachable tartness and fruity finish. Prepare to… drink.*

-We will also have cider! Our friends over at Old Town Cidery of Winchester, VA will have their Pippin hard cider on! This cider is a single varietal of the Ablemarle Pippin, an apple grown by Thomas Jefferson. More of a fine wine, with a sharp, dry finish. 6.9% ABV

-Big Fundamental will be performing in the taproom at 7pm, with Midnite Taxi and Whitney & the Saying Goes

BEER NEWS

Seems like this would be a no-brainer but I guess it needs to be said out loud.

Maybe Don’t Use Serial Killers in Your Craft Beer Marketing – The TakeOut

Dahmer, Kemper, Gacy, and Ramirez collectively killed at least 80 people. The horrors they committed are only a generation behind us—Kemper is still alive in prison in California—and victims’ families are constantly retraumatized by the continued commodification of these killers’ likenesses. To take these figures’ legacies of violence, sanitize them, strip them of context, and turn a profit is to delegitimize the suffering they’ve caused.

Beyond these very good reasons to not use a serial killer’s face to sell any product, craft beer has all the more reason to avoid this kind of marketing. This is an industry that, exactly a year ago, experienced a large-scale reckoning where dozens of people came forward with stories of sexual misconduct and abuse. The Murder Box stands as a signal that, despite any progress made in the past year, there are still sections of the beer industry that remain untouched and unconcerned.

Lilly Pad permit would limit live music volume, hours at Varina venue – Richmond BizSense

A provisional-use permit proposed for the restaurant and the larger Kingsland Marina would limit live music to certain hours and decibel levels, among other conditions that county staff is recommending after determining that the expanded restaurant had outgrown the parameters of a previous permit.

Three Notch’d Brewing to spill into adjacent space in Scott’s Addition – Richmond BizSense

Three Notch’d Brewing Co. is planning to expand its space at 2930 W. Broad St. to include the addition of a restaurant, according to documents filed with the city. The extra room came available after two adjacent spaces were recently left vacant by Red Goat Pizza and Richmond Wine Station.

How these Richmond craft breweries are supporting Ukraine through beer – RTD

After Russia invaded Ukraine, a Lviv craft brewery with the name of Pravda stopped making beer and started brewing Molotov cocktails.

Soon after, the brewer called on fellow brewers around the world to show solidarity with Ukraine by brewing one of Pravda’s beers for charity. Pravda, which is the Russian word for “truth,” made that possible by posting its recipes online.

Several Richmond craft breweries have joined the “Brew for Ukraine” initiative, which aims to raise money for humanitarian relief through sales of the beer and to call attention to the plight of Ukrainians.
