The 12 Weeks of Dudemas – Black Heath Meadery, Next 12 Days

These glasses are so cool. Black Heath Meadery doesn’t have any pictures posted yet but fortunately, Style Weekly is on the ball and posted this picture. For the next 12 weeks swing by Black Heath Meadery and pick up one of these stellar pint glasses. The previous Style Weekly link has the full story and details on these pint glasses that could really tie a kitchen together. Above all, “Abide”.

Black Friday Tacky Wrapping Party! – Intermission, Friday

I’ve managed to avoid doing any Black Friday shopping for about 30 years. This event might (it really won’t) change my mind. Those of you that brave the crowds can reward yourselves with a beer and get those presents wrapped in one stop.

Come grab a beer and wrap your Black Friday presents or presents you want to re-gift at our Black Friday Tacky Wrapping Paper Party!

Tacky Wrapping paper, Tape, and Scissors all provided!

Happy Hour from 1:00 – 2:00!

RVA Black Friday Local Market – Strangeways, Friday

In the previous event announcement, I discussed briefly my disdain for Black Friday. This event is another possible exception because it avoids the chaos that will be the mall or Carytown.

Join us on November 23rd from 1 – 6 PM for a pop-up Local RVA Market on Black Friday in our Brewery! All retailers will be small local businesses and a great opportunity to get a jump on stocking stuffers and Christmas presents!

Stangeways bundled swag gifts will be available and a special collaboration release!

Right On Time Mobile Diner will be joining us from 11 – 7 PM!

Fan Fall Bar Crawl! – The Fan, Saturday

You’ve done the family thing now it’s time to hang with some other beer lovers and hit three spots in the Fan.

Drinking for a great cause! We know you’ve lasted through Thanksgiving and braved Black Friday…So, on Small Business Saturday why not support a local charity, a local distributor, a local brewery and four local bar/restaurants!

The first 24 guest pay $10 to get an exclusive t-shirt and your first beer (limited quantities)! If you don’t get the shirt, you can still receive $5 Ardent core beers and also a $5 app pairing.

We’ll start Foo Dog: Asian Street Food at 5:30 PM. Drop your canned goods here to support Feed More and receive raffle tickets for a special drawing at the final stop!

– At 6:15 PM we’ll move to Home Team Grill in the Fan.
– At 7:00 PM onward to District 5.
– Finally, 7:45 we march to Pizza&BeerRva.

The sponsored Ardent Craft Ales beers at the stops are as follows:

Pint Specials on the new release from 3-7pm and we’ll have our Flagship Friday Happy Hour as normal til 7pm as well. Check out the release details from RVA Head Brewer Willey Broaddus:

“Raisin For Bee’in”
Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Braggot
ABV: 8.7%
IBU: 25
Collaboration with Black Heath Meadery

A braggot is a combination of mead and beer, and we couldn’t think of better people to make this old style with a new flare than the mead masters of Black Heath Meadery. They have been our neighbors in Scott’s Addition for some time and we wanted to celebrate their new expansion with this delicious dessert braggot made with 200 lbs of honey. Don’t worry though, Black Heath is staying in the neighborhood, but they’ll have much more delicious mead coming our way!

Apple Brown Betty Release Party – Isley,  Friday

She’s back!
.
One of our most popular seasonal releases made with fresh pressed Blue Bee Cider apple juice returns to the taps on Black Friday, November 23!
Bring the family by for a couple brews!
.
Apple Brown Betty is a traditional English nut brown ale, with the addition of fresh pressed Blue Bee Cider apple juice, pre and post fermentation. Nutty, caramel sweet, buttery cinnamon, and apple are the prominent flavors, with mulling spices added during the boil for the Apple pie flavor profile. A light cider alcohol flavor comes through the sweet ale backbone and the Blue Bee Cider apples and spices are prominent in the aroma. Pours a rich, dark mahogany color with a cream colored head.

We will also be pouring Caramel Macchiato Porter as our Friday Infusion. What a great way to take a break from shopping or relax after all that shopping! So come by, rest your feet and enjoy a cold one!

2018 Shut Up Release Party – Center of the Universe, Friday

It’s that time of year again. The family is in town…Awkward conversations…Random tiffs…and lots, and lots, of noise. Time to take a minute for yourself, and take down a tall glass of SHUT UP! This year, Shut Up is an 11.5% ABV White Stout aged in Woodford Reserve Bourbon Barrels with cold brew coffee. After a long hibernation, the barrels are blended together to create a unique, complex, and robust libation suitable for an escape.

So on Black Friday, tell your in-laws you are hitting some stores, and cruise on over to the brewery for a little me time. We are opening early, at 12pm, so you can do you.

Take in the aromas & flavors of chocolate, coffee, vanilla and bourbon as you savor the silky finish of this beer. Shut Up! will be available in 16oz 4pack cans to go and on draft all day.

COTU Celebrates Shut Up!

Come help us celebrate the release of this phenomenal white stout. We will have LIVE MUSIC from That Dog Bite from 3-6pm and Capitol Waffle Shop here with their delectable waffle creations!

Apple Brandy GBS Release – Hardywood, Saturday

We’re not done yet! Come out Saturday, November 24 to get this Barrel aged beauty!

Apple Brandy GBS
In this limited edition variant, our Gingerbread Stout blends in perfect harmony with the cinnamon kissed oak staves of the apple brandy barrels in which it was matured. This barrel aged imperial milk stout crescendos with notes of honey, chocolate and fragrant cinnamon. 10.4% ABV. Available in the Richmond, West Creek and Charlottesville location on draft and in 750mL bottles to go! $17.99 + tax

RVA Beer Explorer’s Last Call

The RVA Beer Explorer is sailing off into the sunset but hopefully, you’ll like its fuzzy replacement.

The RVA Beer Explorer is throwing in his beer-soaked towel. The number of breweries and the beer scene of Richmond is awesome. Over the years for health reasons (nothing dramatic just self-realization about my intake) I’ve become less and less part of that awesome beer scene. As a result, I don’t have the passion needed to keep writing about beer every week so it’s time to say goodbye. RVAHub will continue to cover the big beer events and they’ll show up in their respective neighborhood areas or on the main site. We wouldn’t want you to miss out on some of the more unique events that pop-up.

Later today I’ll launch my new weekly post Critters of the Week. It will feature a picture and information about a wild animal spotted in the RVA area and an animal up for adoption by SPCA or RACC.

To my loyal readers out there I thank you for spending time with me each week and putting up with my many, many typos.

JONNY Z FEST is in its 11th year, and we couldn’t be prouder to be part of this beautiful day celebrating the life of Jonny Zanin, a much-loved community activist who we lost far too early. In keeping with Jonny’s boundless energy for connection and mobilization of the creative spirit, the festival features local musicians, interactive art booths, play areas and kids’ projects, an amazing raffle, and the Bizarre Market, of course. Jonny was a champion of the market and organized market events for several years. Free to attend!
