Bluegrass Jam – Final Gravity, Tuesday (today)

The local brewery scene isn’t lacking for live music. There aren’t however that many chances for you to join in the musical fun. That all changes tonight if you’re into bluegrass.

Bluegrass Jam is coming to Final Gravity on Tuesday, October 9th and you’re invited! Come out and listen or bring your acoustic bluegrass instruments and join in. If you do sit in and play, you’ll get a discount on your first beer. We’re even staying open a little later to keep the tunes going. Empanadas Market will also be onsite and you definitely don’t want to miss out on them!

Craft Beer Tent at the Folk Festival – Richmond Folk Festival, Friday-Sunday

The real reason to be at the Richmond Folk Festival is obviously the insane amount of world-class music that will be on display. Fortunately listening to music and drink excellent beers go very well together. They haven’t announced the line-up yet but follow that link above because last year the beer was amazing.

The Craft Beer Tent at the Richmond Folk Festival is back! We will have beer talks, games, hourly tappings and a ton of amazing craft beers on tap! Stay tuned as we reveal all the details over the coming weeks and months!

Pickled & Fermented Festival – Center of the Universe, Saturday

I like the phrase “in a pickle” but I can’t say I’m a fine of the pickle. This all changes when you talk about pickled foods that aren’t cucumbers. Don’t even get me started on pickleball. If you’re a fan of the pickle head up to COTU and get yourself a $10 pickle pass (18 and under is free) for sampling all the delicious things and watching demonstrations throughout the day.

Pickle Lovers and Fermented fiends unite! The Artisan Pickles club is hosting our 3rd Annual Pickled & Fermented festival – a celebration of all things pickled and fermented! We’re talking more than pickled cucumbers here – we don’t discriminate when it comes to pickled things. Pickled fruit, pickled veggies, hot sauce, kimchi, BEER, Kombucha… if it’s pickled or fermented, we’re celebrating it!

Join us at Center of the Universe Brewing Company for a day of pickle tastings, live music, a pickle themed beer and loads of pickle shenanigans!

Growlers for Howlers – Ardent, Sunday

I know some of you out there aren’t a fan of dogs at breweries. I’m a huge fan since it means I get to have the fun of loving on some dogs with the hassle of owning a dog. Non-dog fans avoid Ardent on Sunday, dog fans unite at Ardent for a good cause.

The third annual Growlers for Howlers is returning to Ardent!

Come help us raise money to support the Richmond SPCA and find homes for pets with loving families. We’ll have open adoptions available in the Tail Wag’N, as well as spent grain dog treats and growler fill specials all afternoon.

Your dogs are welcome to join in on the fun, too! 🐶

Plus, Land of Saffron will be serving up their authentic Spanish paella all day!

New Doctor Day! Doctor Who Viewing Party – Intermission Beer Company, Sunday

Celebrate the first woman Doctor Who with a beer or two.

Whovians – The Doctor’s ready. Are you?

The #DoctorWho Global Simulcast premieres Sunday, October 7 at 1:45pm on BBC America and we are watching it at Intermission Beer Company! Join us for this historical event!

Next week we’ll have 2 goodies coming out from RVA Head Brewer Willey Broaddus, check out what’s debuting Thursday:

“Pomegranate Gose”
Gose
ABV: 5.1%
IBU: 8
Our Fall Seasonal Gose from HQ

Nothing says Autumn in Virginia like mild days and crisp nights so we put that feeling in a can. This German sour ale becomes a Fall favorite with the addition of the ancient flavors of pomegranate tartness from kettle-souring with lactobacillus gives the beer the same dry, crisp quality as those brisk nights. Fall never tasted so good. Leave you mark!

Additonally we’ll also be hosting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Virginia Chapter for a Proceeds Night so come in and do some good simply by enjoying our beer!

Brittle Star Double IPA Release – Final Gravity, Friday

Brittle Star, Final Gravity’s newest 8% ABV DIPA, releases this Friday with an exquisite and delicate balance of El Dorado, Galaxy, and Mosaic hops. The essence of citrus, passionfruit, mango, and pine is magnified in the glass yet drinks simple and smooth. Available in Crowlers

RVA Beer Explorer’s Last Call

The RVA Beer Explorer is sailing off into the sunset but hopefully, you’ll like its fuzzy replacement.

The RVA Beer Explorer is throwing in his beer-soaked towel. The number of breweries and the beer scene of Richmond is awesome. Over the years for health reasons (nothing dramatic just self-realization about my intake) I’ve become less and less part of that awesome beer scene. As a result, I don’t have the passion needed to keep writing about beer every week so it’s time to say goodbye. RVAHub will continue to cover the big beer events and they’ll show up in their respective neighborhood areas or on the main site. We wouldn’t want you to miss out on some of the more unique events that pop-up.

Later today I’ll launch my new weekly post Critters of the Week. It will feature a picture and information about a wild animal spotted in the RVA area and an animal up for adoption by SPCA or RACC.

To my loyal readers out there I thank you for spending time with me each week and putting up with my many, many typos.

JONNY Z FEST is in its 11th year, and we couldn’t be prouder to be part of this beautiful day celebrating the life of Jonny Zanin, a much-loved community activist who we lost far too early. In keeping with Jonny’s boundless energy for connection and mobilization of the creative spirit, the festival features local musicians, interactive art booths, play areas and kids’ projects, an amazing raffle, and the Bizarre Market, of course. Jonny was a champion of the market and organized market events for several years. Free to attend!
