Oktoberfest Celebration – Center of the Universe, Friday and Saturday
Don’t put away that lederhosen yet my little liebling. There is still a large amount of festing to be done up in Ashland as COTU rolls out the barrel for two days of fun. I’ve listed the events below but go here for the details on the food and of course the special Oktoberfest beers they’re rolling out.
Day 1: Friday, October 5th 4:00pm – 10:00pm 🔷
Friday, October 5th, the taproom will be transformed into a traditional German festhalle! Come grab a stein of our malty, refreshing Oktoberfest beer, throw on your lederhosen and dance the polka with ACCA (Shrine) Temple Sauerkrauts German Band who will be taking the biergarten stage for a day of nonstop German music, food and beer! Read on below for 2 Days of German fun. Prost!

🔹 The ACCA Temple Sauerkrauts – (Friday Only)
The ACCA (Shrine) Temple Sauerkrauts German Band are no stranger to the Richmond Oktoberfest scene! The Sauerkrauts, an all-volunteer band, have been playing together since 1977, with the proceeds from performances benefitting families of patients at the Shriners Childrens Hospital.
The Sauerkrauts will be playing from 4:00pm-9:00pm
🔸 The Low’n’Brows – (Saturday Only)
The The LOW’n’BROWS are a German “Oompah” Band out of Fredericksburg who have been playing professionally as a group for over 21 years specializing in polkas, waltzes and other traditional “hofbrauhaus” music. Their upbeat traditional German tunes are sure to delight those who enjoy singing and dancing of all ages!
The Low’n’Brows will be playing from 12:00pm – 5:00pm
🔹The Kings Park German Band – (Saturday Only)
The Kings Park German Band is an ensemble of musicians from the Kings Park Concert Band. The Kings Park Band was formed in 1965 with nine people, donated music, and a basement rehearsal room. It has grown to a full concert band of over 55 adults with a paid professional conductor. The dedicated volunteer members of the Kings Park Concert Band carry on the American community band tradition through the presentation of free public concerts. We are excited to have them here for our Oktoberfest celebration!
The Kings Park German Band will be playing from 5:00pm – 9:00pm
RVA is RED Night: Kickers vs Nashville – City Stadium, Saturday
The Richmond Kickers are one of Richmond’s underappreciated assets. Live professional soccer doesn’t exist in many towns and Richmond is lucky to have a team so involved in the community. Even more under the radar is that at every home game the Kickers are serving up great craft beers and the occasional cider. This Saturday, at 7PM at City Stadium is the last home game of the season and if you wear red you’ll get a ticket for a free beer or soda. I’m not saying you should take your kid and give them two bucks for their beer ticket so they can get a soda but you should totally do that.
2nd Anniversary Celebration – Three Notch’d Collab House Saturday
It seems like just yesterday you were a shiny face baby brewery in town. Now, look at you a big two years old and ready to take on the world or at least throw a party to celebrate.
It’s amazing how quickly 2 years has gone by! We’ve been extremely humbled to be able to collaborate with so many great people in making our beers and now it’s time to celebrate. We’ve got a fun day lined up for you RVA and we hope you’ll stop by and raise a glass with us. Saturday, October 6th from Noon-11pm we’ll have a number of great beers making their return along with the release of our 2nd Annual Staff Beer to commemorate the occasion. It’s Our Fifth Bee Day: The Wooden Anniversary – Blue Bee Cider, Saturday & Sunday
Not beer obviously but you’ve got to give it up to the first urban cidery in Richmond. Happy Birthday little bee.
Blue Bee Cider is celebrating FIVE years of good times in Richmond, Va. It has gone by so fast!
Year five is the wooden anniversary year, so please join us for a jam-packed weekend that highlights smoke, fire, and cider made with barrels in one way or another.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 6
Our friends at Smohk RVA will have an array of delicious smoked meat, veggie and apple dishes while blacksmith Cristy Walker from Primitive Events will offer micro-forging lessons making bottle openers throughout the day. Live music by Justin Golden from 1-3 p.m. and the Richmond Rounders old-time string band supergroup from 4-7 p.m.

We will have small-batch collaboration flights while supplies last that include:
* The Compleat Cyder, a barrel-fermented collaboration with Virginia Museum of History & Culture
* Merlot barrel-aged Charred Ordinary, a collaboration with Early Mountain Vineyards
* Mill Race Bramble barrel-aged in an Ardent Craft Ales red sour barrel
* Gin barrel-aged Hewe’s Crab, a collaboration with Catoctin Creek
* Apple brandy barrel-aged Hopsap Shandy, a collaboration with Catoctin Creek
Additional new releases will be available beginning at noon as follows:
– Brandy, whiskey, gin, maple syrup, wine, sour beer, and cider barrels will be available in 5-gallon, 30-gallon and 59-gallon sizes. All kinds of uses, especially for home brewers.
– Cross Pollinate, a barrel-fermented collaboration with The Veil Brewing Co.
– Rye and maple syrup barrel-aged Hewe’s Crab, a collaboration with Reservoir Distillery and Back Creek Farms

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7
The festivities continue with a special Bizarre Market — Bee Day Edition! Join us from 12-4 p.m. to browse the snuggly, sparkly, gifty goodness of 20 makers. Local. Handmade. Magic.
Blue Ribbon Virginia Craft Beer Fest – Virginia State Fair, Saturday
You know what goes well with beer? Funnel cake, footlong corndogs, and terrifying rides that just a week ago where on a trailer on I-95. Twenty different breweries will be offering samples of their beers. One beer will be a lower alcohol and the other will be one of their flagship beers.
Enjoy 4 ounce tastings from more than 20 independent, small and commercial breweries from all round Virginia. Virginia’s farm breweries will also be prominently featured. Each brewery will offer a sessionable beer, one with a lower alcohol content or an easier drinking version, and one of their flagship brews that defines their craft. Many include local and organic ingredients. Malt, honey and hops producers from Virginia will also be part of the Fest, demonstrating the direct tie to agriculture.
This event is a partnership between the Virginia Craft Brewers Guild and State Fair of Virginia to celebrate the booming independent craft beer industry in the state and introduce a new audience to this unique agricultural product. Fest attendees will have the opportunity to interact with owners, brewers and representatives from throughout the commonwealth and enjoy their fantastic products while listening to live music. A combo ticket that includes admission to the fair and the beer festival are $30. Day of tickets are $25 and do not include admission.

Not content with being a beer giant Hardywood is taking a bite out of the cider apple.
Another promised brewery is heading our way, they promise.
“We will have some tart beer. We will have some hoppy beer,” Caudle said. “We are going to do a little bit of most everything.
“The vast majority will be in the Saison, wild, funky, and tart realms, mostly using yeast cultures that we have forged ourselves,” he said. “We will still buy the occasional culture from various labs for certain types of beer, but our primary focus is going to be on these wild cultures.”
Return of 12 Parsecs Double IPA – Final Gravity, Friday
It’s back!! You remember Falconers Flight? They’re the hops that make this fan-favorite DIPA burst with citrus and pine aroma while tasting ever so smooth. How fast this 8% DIPA will go is hard to say…but it will definitely go quickly. Get your hands on some Crowlers before they’re gone.
Run The Gauntlet #9 – Castleburg, Friday
Our brewers were feeling a bit nostalgic for simpler times and classic Pacific Northwest hops so we’re pleased to announce the return of the Run the Gauntlet Pale Ale series with version 9! This true SMaSH (single malt and single hop) pale ale features a malty backbone of Golden Promise and the floral, earthy flavors and aromas of Willamette hops. Crisp, light, and crushable, you better be prepared to throw down with Run the Gauntlet Pale Ale #9!
