Attack the Invasives on Two Fronts this Saturday
Friends of James River Park are taking on invasive plants near T. Pot Bridge and the Friends of Forest Hill Park are taking on invasive plants in Forest Hill Park.
Invasive plants are a problem throughout the area. Plants not from around here are killing local plants and hurting the animals that depend on the plants. Two groups are attacking the problem head-on.
Friends of James River Park will be down in Manchester along the trails by The T. Potterfield Memorial Bridge on Saturday from 10 AM to 1PM. Sign with HandsOn RVA here.
We will be focusing on the hillside area where the Public Art Installationon was installed. We will be working with loppers, hand saws and weed wenches to remove Ailanthus trees (aka Tree of Heaven) and other invasive brush that has taken over the hillside, encroaching on the art installation. This area will be bustling with activity due to the Folk Festival the following weekend and we want our city to look at its best!
Friends of Forest Hill Park will be working in their namesake on Saturday from 10 AM to Noon.
You can sign-up with HandsOn RVA here to work on removing the English ivy, Japanese honeysuckle, and privet plants growing in Forest Hill Park.
