Teachers new to Henrico schools will learn about students, community through bus tours
The tour will also include stops at important community gathering places, religious sites, and food destinations. Tours will be conducted by principals, HCPS central office employees, and school resource officers.
Teachers can be most effective when they better understand their students and the communities in which they teach.
That’s the idea behind an upcoming series of community bus tours August 20th that will take teachers new to the school division to visit schools in their students’ “feeder patterns” – the elementary, middle and high schools they are zoned to attend.
The tour will also include stops at important community gathering places, religious sites, and food destinations. Tours will be conducted by principals, HCPS central office employees, and school resource officers.
The activity is a joint project of Henrico Schools’ departments of Professional Learning and Leadership; Equity and Diversity; Family and Community Engagement; and Pupil Transportation. The Henrico County Planning Department also contributed to the effort.
