Dumb Waiter Record Release W/ Piranha Rama and Naked Pictures – Champion Brewing, Saturday

There are events that aren’t happening on Wednesday. Not very many but here’s another one.

Dumb Waiter will release their third album on JUJU records 7/7 at Champion Brewery. Critics in the band are saying such fantastic things about the upcoming release:

“A spilled cup of coffee on that book you were getting around to read.” – Sax player

“I liked them before they cleaned up their act.” – Sax player as well

“Chipped reeds, cracked sticks, dulled strings; forgotten riffs and misplaced picks. Sometimes you just gotta put your cleft foot forward.” – Sax player again

“Does anyone else have something to say about the release? It can’t all be Tristan…. no? Well I don’t know what to say. I guess I’ll just list everything he said about the record.” – guitar player

From 5-8 PM we will have live music from The Analogue Republic. Hailing from Richmond Virginia, The Analogue Republic is an unconventional “power trio” merging blues, jazz, funk and rock to form a unique voice that pays tribute to its many influences. The group dishes out tight groove oriented music reminiscent of bands such as, Galactic, Lettuce and John Scofield. The guitar-centric project is headed up by Gary Titi who brings a jazz flavor with decidedly pop sensibilities. Kevin Gaines on the drums creates a solid driving rhythm section. The project is often a workshop of sorts, sometimes weaving in other instrumentalists to add to the sonic stew. Fans of accessible groove based jazz should appreciate what the band has to offer.

At the end of the night, you can enjoy the fireworks display from the Richmond Flying Squirrels, from our parking lot!

Smoked Farmhouse Release – Veil Brewing, Saturday

RVA Beer Explorer’s Last Call

The RVA Beer Explorer is sailing off into the sunset but hopefully, you’ll like its fuzzy replacement.

The RVA Beer Explorer is throwing in his beer-soaked towel. The number of breweries and the beer scene of Richmond is awesome. Over the years for health reasons (nothing dramatic just self-realization about my intake) I’ve become less and less part of that awesome beer scene. As a result, I don’t have the passion needed to keep writing about beer every week so it’s time to say goodbye. RVAHub will continue to cover the big beer events and they’ll show up in their respective neighborhood areas or on the main site. We wouldn’t want you to miss out on some of the more unique events that pop-up.

Later today I’ll launch my new weekly post Critters of the Week. It will feature a picture and information about a wild animal spotted in the RVA area and an animal up for adoption by SPCA or RACC.

To my loyal readers out there I thank you for spending time with me each week and putting up with my many, many typos.

In keeping with Jonny’s boundless energy for connection and mobilization of the creative spirit, the festival features local musicians, interactive art booths, play areas and kids’ projects, an amazing raffle, and the Bizarre Market, of course. Jonny was a champion of the market and organized market events for several years. Free to attend!
