We’re all set to feed all your hungry little mouths tonight at Trivia Night at Champion Brewing Company Richmond, and every day moving forward. We’ll be opening for lunch soon, so keep your eyes peeled for more information for that. Dig in!

Bryant’s Cider Opens Roseland VA Tasting Room, Begins Richmond Distribution, Eyes Second Location in Richmond

If you’re a ciderhead give the following press release a read.

Bryant’s Cider officially opened to the public Memorial Day weekend. Bryant’s hand crafts a
different kind of hard cider, produced using fresh pressed local nelson county apples. Bryant’s only produces fully dry hard ciders with no added sugars, perfect for those who love cider but not all the sugar. The small batch ciders are crafted using traditional methods and incorporate natural carbonation.

The premium cider is non-filtered, non-pasteurized and uses no artificial ingredients.
Bryant’s stays true to its country roots while embracing its urban style. Bryant’s believes in
sustainable agriculture and preserving rural Virginia. Our Roseland VA farm, in the family since the 1850’s, offers scenic mountain views in a serene farm setting. We provide a true farm experience, on a working farm, while enjoying ciders in our dog friendly cider pasture.

Bryant’s Cider selected Richmond, Charlottesville and Lynchburg as the primary distribution
markets. Product will begin shipping early June. Bryant’s is currently working to identify a Richmond location for its satellite tasting room.

Bryant’s launched with three distinct products unlike anything currently available in the market:

  • Unicorn Fuel: A fully dry hard cider infused with Rosehips and Hibiscus. The Hibiscus brings a deep pink hue to the cider and a rich flavor while the Rose Hips offer a tart citrusy punch.
  • Brite Good: The flagship dry cider offers a refreshing apple aroma, rich flavor and a nice finish.
  • Chaider: Our refreshing cider infused with our own blend of Chai spices. The aroma of Cinnamon and Cardamom quickly take a back seat to the crisp Ginger taste.
  • Cucumber Habanero and Hell Hop ciders are in production for July release

One Drop Double IPA Returns – Final Gravity, Friday

Fresh off their medal grab at the 2018 Virginia Craft Beer Cup the Lakeside brewery is bringing back a favorite.

After being gone for 6 months, we thought we’d bring back one of your favorites. Revisit the refreshing citrus flavors of Lemondrop, Mosaic, and Citra hops and take a few Crowlers to go. Feel it in the One Drop.

Above the Salt – Castleburg, Friday

It’s time for everyone to Gose.

We are more than excited to introduce our first sour beer, Above the Salt. This light, tart ale is exactly what we want for a day at the pool. Crisp and refreshing, without being overly tart, this 50% wheat beer comes to us with an ABV of 4.7% and a perfect salinity level. Just don’t call us Salt Bae…

Fastidious Father – Isley, Saturday

Isley’s Peanut Butter Porter is one of their most popular beers and this weekend they’re releasing a variation that’s bananas.

We’ve been very careful with this one… You might even say “Fastidious”. Our Richmond-Famous Choosy Mother has found a companion. We present “Fastidious Father” Banana Peanut Butter Porter. We’ve taken the Peanut Butter variant of our Oatmeal Porter to another level with the addition of TEN POUNDS of bananas. The Choosy Mother that you know and love has been kicked up a notch with the flavor of fresh bananas, and the aroma of desserts from grandma’s kitchen table!

Same ABV, same IBU, but a completely different beverage experience. Enjoy! 6.6% ABV | 19 IBUs

Triple Crossing Signs Deal with Sun to Produce Power

From Facebook.

Not to be all Captain Planet-like, but we thought it worthwhile to show off just how we plan to harvest the power of the sun going forward. The shot above shows our newly installed solar panel array that will take maximum advantage of the abundance of sunlight that spills onto our roof at Fulton, otherwise going completely unused.
With this new solar array, we plan to offset most of our electrical power needs going forward and move closer to being carbon neutral. While not an uncommon undertaking in the beer game, it’s given us a deeper respect for the stewards of our industry who have made deep commitments to sustainability for all the right reasons.

The VCU beer branding debacle is the impetus for this article.

The Battle Over Branded Brews – Inside Higher Ed

One athletic director, Mario Moccia of New Mexico State University, estimates that about 45 institutions have established a branded beer; he has been collecting collegiate beer cans since NMSU launched Pistol Pete’s 1888 Ale in 2017.

Despite some benefits, not every institution has jumped at the opportunity to sell its own beer. In some cases, the sale of alcohol is still prohibited at university events, making it impossible to peddle the product to a key market. In others, critics have raised concerns about an institution lending its name to beer given the prevalence of underaged drinking and alcohol abuse.

Quick HitCheck out our story on a special Capsoul release

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery is partnering with the Virginia National Guard Historical Foundation for a special release in time for Veterans Day. Ever Forward American Lager is a tribute to the thousands of soldiers and airmen of the Virginia National Guard.

During WWI, the Virginia-based 116th Infantry Regiment coined the phrase “Ever Forward” as a rallying cry during the fierce battle of the Meuse-Argonne. It has since become a touchpoint for National Guard soldiers across the Commonwealth. Hardywood is excited to create this opportunity to raise a glass to those who have served the state and the country with this exclusive beer. “Our focus at Hardywood has always been on Virginia, from the folks who join us in the taproom to the farmers we source ingredients from, so this seemed like a great partnership that builds on our strong Virginia foundation,” said Hardywood President Kate Lee.

The beer itself is a classic American craft lager, made with Virginia-grown and malted 2-row barley from Charlottesville’s Murphy and Rude Malting Company. This crisp and delicious craft beverage is a perfect way to celebrate over 400 years of service.

“We’re thrilled to partner up with Hardywood for the release of Ever Forward American Lager” says Jake Crocker, Executive Director of the Virginia National Guard Historical Foundation. “We’re excited to highlight four centuries of Virginia’s citizen soldiers while raising awareness of our foundation’s upcoming initiatives, including the Museum of The Virginia National Guard,” continued Crocker. Ever Forward will be released in time for Veterans Day on November 11th, with a release party in conjunction with the National Guard and the 116th Infantry Regiment on Friday, November 11th at the Hardywood West Creek location from 5-8pm.
