James River Outdoor Coalition working on universal access ramp at Huguenot Flatwater

JROC is working hard to improve our parks and grant river access to all.

I spend about 4-5 days a week enjoying various aspects of the James River Parks. I’m lucky enough to not have any issues accessing all the park has to offer. Not everyone is so lucky and the folks of James River Outdoor Coalition are hoping to improve that situation.

From the JROC site where you can also donate money to make this project happen:

The James River Outdoor Coalition is embarking on one of the most ambitious endeavors in its twenty year history, a universal access ramp at the Huguenot Flatwater section of the James River Park System. The ramp will allow people of all ability levels access to both flatwater and downstream whitewater sections of the James River.

Last year we challenged membership and the public during our Twenty For Twenty campaign to raise 20 thousand dollars for our 20th birthday. We crushed that goal thanks to your support and have already invested that money back into the park. JROC has approved over thirty thousand dollars for the construction documents and permits, but that is just the beginning. We need your help to make universal access a reality. We can accept donations via PayPal or by check.
