The goats did their job now it’s time for the humans to step up.

Friends of Forest View Cemetery are working diligently to restore a forgotten cemetery and recently had the help of goats.

Somewhere beneath that Southern Jungle is a cemetery.

The picture above is pre-goat. The picture below is post goat. The picture wasn’t taken from the exact same angle but you certainly get an idea of what those hungry goats and a few sheep accomplished.

The goats did a better job of chomping down the weed than expected (last week’s article on the goat’s arrival). A two week project was cut in half so now it’s time for humans to get in there and help make a difference.

From Friends of Forest View Cemetery:

Join us Saturday, June 9th from 9am-12pm to clean-up the cemetery! Be a part of historic preservation! The goats and sheep have done their work, and now it’s our turn! The ivy leaves are gone, but the vines, roots, trash, and debris remain and need to be removed. You will be paving the way for archeologists! Your help will bring us closer to learning more about how many are buried here, all while keeping the hope that we may discover who is buried here. Kristi from RVA Goats will be there! We will also be joined by a volunteer archeologist who will work along with us and help to ensure that nothing important is accidentally moved or discarded. Please wear long pants and closed toed shoes. We will provide gloves and sleeve protection. Thank you and hope to see you there!
