On Saturday, May 5, over a thousand participants will join together at the annual Relay For Life of Greater Richmond at Pocahontas Middle School to help the American Cancer Society attack cancer from every angle. The event starts at 3:00 PM with a Kids’ Relay & Run and then an opening ceremony at 4:00 PM.

The American Cancer Society puts on the event to raise funds to attack cancer in dozens of ways, each of them critical to achieving a world without cancer–from developing breakthrough therapies to building supportive communities, from providing empowering resources to deploying activists to raise awareness.

Local cancer survivor Heather Temple, team captain of the Hope For Heather team, understands first-hand how vital these services are. “The American Cancer Society and Relay For Life has provided a way for my friends, family and colleagues to gather together and show their support of me along my cancer journey,” she said.

Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Washington in 1985, the Relay For Life movement unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have been touched by cancer, remember loved ones, and take action for lifesaving change.

In addition to the support of the community, Relay For Life of Greater Richmond is also supported by many local businesses and organizations. This year’s sponsors include: Apex Systems, Dominion Energy, Markel, Hanover Vegetable Farm, Macy’s, Richmond Family Magazine and MIX 98.1.
