Earth Day Plogging for Beer in Manchester – Twisted Ales Brewing, Sunday
Apparently the word for “being a decent human and picking up trash you see” is plogging. Well one local brewery is rewarding you for being decent.
Plogging – it’s a thing! We couldn’t think of a better way to spend Earth Day than by getting some exercise and cleaning up Manchester.
**All ploggers get drink specials by registering when they pick up their gloves and bag and turning in their bag of trash.
Have you recently spotted people toting trash bags while jogging? Or their hands filled with old plastic bottles? You might soon.
Sweden’s latest fitness craze — plogging — is making its way to U.S. shores. The term is a mash-up of jogging and the Swedish “plocka upp,” meaning pick up. In this case, litter.
Across Europe, there are plogging groups in Scandinavia, Germany and beyond. In the United States, it’s just starting to catch on among exercisers who are fed up with rubbish along their route.
We will provide bags and gloves to all ploggers.
Earth Day Plogging on the James -Väsen Brewing, Saturday
Plogging is the word of this year’s Earth Day. It doesn’t sound better than picking up lazy people’s mess. This one is the day before Twisted Ales and just like that one head to the brewery after gathering trash.

Väsen is excited to bring a little bit of Sweden to Richmond for Earth Day 2018. On Saturday 4/21 we’ll be out on Belle Isle doing our first “Plogging” event of the year.
What’s Plogging you say? It combines picking up trash and jogging…can you think of anything more Scandinavian?
We’ll have our Väsen-branded tent set up as a meeting spot at the entrance to the Belle Isle pedestrian bridge on Tredegar. We’ll have everything you’ll need to pick up trash as you jog along our cleanup route (see the map in our post below). It should take you less than an hour to do the whole route.
To sweeten the deal, we’re making this a competition. You’ll be able to Plog on a team of up to 3 people. At the end of the route, we’ll be weighing bags of trash, and the team with the most trash collected will win free merch and gift cards.
After we’re done, head back to the brewery for our afterparty and special drink discounts!
We’re hosting this event in collaboration with our friends at Hostelling International, Keep Virginia Cozy, and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay.

Pineapple Mango Beliner Weisse Can Release – Ownby Lane Hardywood, Friday
Pineapple and mango. Is it a beer or a fruit salad? Only one way to find out.

We are welcoming spring and not wasting any time for Berliner Weisse season. First up for our fruited variation of this warm weather favorite is Pineapple Mango! Available on draft and 16oz cans to go! $15 + tax / per 4 pack.
Berliner Weisse is known for its refreshing tartness and delicate body, making it an historically popular style to beat the heat of summer at outdoor cafes in Berlin, Germany. Hardywood has recreated this delightful, thirst-quenching style using a kettle souring method and traditional German ingredients.
Ill Technique Double IPA Returns – Final Gravity, Friday
It’s not a Friday unless Final Gravity tells us about another IPA hitting the taps. We’re not complaining.

This 4/20, after almost 5 months, Final Gravity brings back Ill Technique – a hazy, fresh 8% DIPA brewed with Jarrylo and Citra hops – a mash-up of hard-core citrus mixed with the subtle smoothness of spice and pear. Straight up Juicy Fruit.
