RVA Beer Explorer Weekly Picks

You can’t do it all but here are the beer events you shouldn’t miss.

Silent / Music Revival: Dave Watkins & Infinite Third – Väsen Brewing Company, Tuesday (today)

Live music by Dave Watkins & Infinite Third will be playing to accompany two silent films. The films are TBD but definitely an interesting idea and worth checking out.

Movie Premier “Life Cycles”  and Bike Ride– Triple Crossing Fulton, Wednesday

Casual Ride: 5pm
Social: 6pm, Movie: 6:30pm (runtime 48min)

LIV RVA is proud to present a screening of “Life Cycles” …. “Life cycles tells a spectacular story of the bike, from its creation to its eventual demise. Ride along into breath taking natural settings, as we battle the elements, showcase the progression of riding, take a road trip, fix the bike, and show the destruction and eventual creation of trails.”

Join us at Triple Crossing Beer for an evening of bikes, beer, food, giveaways, and celebrating women in mountain biking! All proceeds benefit our trails! Many thanks to our friends at 3X for hosting us for this event! All are welcome so bring your family, significant others, friends, and fellow shredders!

This fundraiser is sponsored by Liv Cycling USA, Coqui cyclery, and Triple Crossing Beer and will directly benefit our local mountian bike organization RVA MORE who helps to advocate, maintain, and assist us in all things TRAIL!

“Lifecycles is a celebration of the bicycle, and is sure to entertain anyone who has ever ridden one.”

Tickets: $5 via Additional donations accepted.

Legend Brewing Co 24th Anniversary – Legend Brewing, Saturday

The granddaddy of the RVA Beer scene turns 24 this weekend. That’s a young granddad and just like granddad he’s sneaking you a sip of a beer. Four food trucks and three bands will be in action. Everything kicks off at noon.

Facebook Event:

24 years ago, Legend began as a small tasting room and pub off of an old gravel road called West 6th Street in Richmond’s Historic Old Manchester District. Today, Legend hosts a 380 seat deck overlooking the city with 18 taps of Legend Beer flowing. It’s that time of year again to shut it all down and bring out the big stage.

Join us as we celebrate 24 years of good beer and fun! We’re hosting live bands on the city stage, food trucks, face painting and cornhole.

ADMISSION IS FREE! Beer tickets will be available for $5 each.

4th Anniversary Weekend – Triple Crossing, Fulton on Friday & Downtown on Saturday

We’ve also got a young pup with a birthday this weekend as Triple Crossing turns four. Their event is more sedate and focused on beer releases:

Friday, 4/13: Fulton – Can Release: Battle Creek DIPA and Infinite Reflections Stout

Saturday, 4/14: Downtown – Cans from Friday’s Fulton Release plus Proximity Project White Rabbit Mixed Ferm Ale 500ml Release, Space Falcon IPA Crowler Release, Nightmare Canyon IPA DDH kegs and a TBA stout variant.

RVA Human Foosball Tournament – Hardywood, Saturday

This event is rescheduled from last weekends snowy Saturday. If you haven’t watched people playing human foosball it’s worth swinging by. The most competent athlete will look pretty foolish when they can only move a little bit while attached to a giant pole.

From Facebook:

RVA’s First Ever Human Foosball Tournament
A larger-than-life game of foosball where YOU are the player!
Fundraiser for Art on Wheels

– Get a team of six players.
– Or you can sign up as an individual.
– Just $50 a Person to Play!
– Have Fun, This is not a serious sport!
– All Profits go to Art on Wheels!
– To register visit

What is Human Foosball?
For those who don’t know what Foosball is, it is a classic tabletop game where you try to score the ball in the opponent’s goal post using the players on the bars. Now the thing with Human Foosball, the courts have been supersized and instead of having little figures scoring the ball, you’re going to be the one out there doing the scoring.

Now get yourself and five other friends dressed in your best outfits/costumes and show us your swagger. Come dressed as your favorite sports team or maybe come dressed as a band of pirates, the choice is yours!

Objective: To score in the opponent’s goal post as many times possible in the allotted time. Teams will compete with each other until there is a winner.

Second location for The Veil Brewing, plus apartments and more retail, coming to South Richmond near the intersection of Westover Hills and Forest Hill – RTD

That is possibly the longest headline in RTD history. To sum up, there’s an empty lot that they’re trying to rezone. If all goes according to plan you can wait in line for Veil beer in two locations.

Locals Begin Brewing Own Beer While in Line at The Veil – The Peedmont

It’s so funny because it’s true. This bit may have actually made me QSTM (quietly smirk to myself).

“We heard a rumor that Another Another Cloudy Cloudy Ale Ale contains 12 more grams of hops than last week’s release,” self-proclaimed beer enthusiast Miles Franklin explained.

The line stacked several hundred people deep as The Veil staff refused to open the doors until they took the perfect Instagram photo of their new beer.

“Somewhere around attempt 350, we started to get bored and the crowd got very agitated,” Franklin said.

Keepz Building Release – Veil Brewing, Tuesday

Is this the golden age of IPAs? I don’t know but you can’t swing a hop vine without slapping someone in line for a new bitter beer.

Keepz Building is a brand new 9% DIPA. Hopped intensely/irresponsibly with Citra Lupulin Powder, Nelson, Mosaic, Mosaic Lupulin Powder, Galaxy, Enigma, and El Dorado. One of the most complex yet structured hop profiles we’ve created. Dense, drippy, saturated citrusy hops. Very stoked on this one and hope y’all are too! Shooting for approx 180-205x cases. $17+tax/4-pack. 2x cases/12x 4-packs per person.

We hope to see y’all this Tuesday for our weekly can release. Doors open at 4pm!

Triple Score Beer Release – Final Gravity, Friday

Not one, not two, but three that’s right three new ipas to try at Final Gravity.

Final Gravity is on the verge of adding three extra lives to their game this week. Come test out:

-Asteroids Hazy Double IPA with Columbus, Mosaic, and Citra hops
-Space Invaders Hazy Double IPA with pure Mosaic hops
-New World Hoppy Saison with Amarillo & Simcoe hops

Schwarzbier Release – Ardent, Thursday

Well, I can count on the good folks at Ardent to not release an IPA. Unrelated to beer but if you haven’t been next door Ardent’s new neighbor ZZQ you need to get on over there. The barbecue is awesome.

We’re bringing back our award-winning Schwarzbier on Thursday, April 19! #neverstoplagering

Schwarzbier is a sessionable dark German lager with a slightly chocolaty, roasted aroma. Medium bodied, with a crisp, clean mouthfeel. Subtle malt flavors are balanced by moderate hop bitterness, followed by a pleasantly roasty finish. Winner of the gold medal in the Darker European Beer category at the 2016 Virginia Craft Beer Cup.
