Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens was voted the #4 public garden in North America by readers of USA Today but we all know it’s #1. There are over 50 acres to explore and if the weather isn’t co-operating you can find sanctuary in the classical domed glass Conservatory.

January might seem like an odd time to visit a garden but as you’ll learn there is still plenty to see. Check out the January Blooms on the Lewis Ginter site to get a preview of what you might see in person. Although it’s not much of a bloom see if you can find the frankly bizarre ostrich fern or Matteuccia struthiopteris in the Flagler Garden.

Normally admission is between $8-$13 but this weekend garden admission is free Jan. 10 – 14. You’ll have hold off on your shopping and dining though because the Garden Cafe, Tea House and Garden Shop are closed.

Don’t wait until Monday though. The gardens will be closed on Monday, January 15th to repair water pipes that didn’t survive last week’s big freeze. Everything will be back to normal when they re-open at 9 AM on the 16th.
