The sidewalks are slippery so it’s not surprising the vertical climbing is on the slippery side as well.

Rock climbing is a dangerous endeavor in the best of conditions. Rock climbing in sub-freezing icy conditions just seems to be asking for trouble as one individual found out Saturday morning.

NBC12 has the details:

A man is recovering in the hospital after fire officials say he was rock climbing in icy conditions.

Richmond Fire officials responded to the area of 42nd Street and Riverside Drive early Saturday morning. When they arrived on the scene, they found a man who fell 25 to 30 feet off of a rock climbing wall near the Buttermilk Trail.

The injuries are non-life threatening.
