Idle Hands Bread Company closes Jackson Ward bakery to focus on Fan location
Delicious bread just became a little harder to get in Jackson Ward with the closure of the little bakery.
Idle Hands Bread Company at the start of 2018 has closed its original location at 312 Brook Road. The small shop was tucked near the new Maggie Walker Statue and was one of the smaller bakeries I’ve ever visited. That never stopped them from making great bread and other baked treats.
The good news is that the bread and baked goodness will continue at their second location, 407 Strawberry Street.
The cited reasons for the closing are a combination of construction hassles and the overwhelming popularity of the new location on Strawberry Street.
Explained in part by this post announcing their closure on Facebook:
There were many factors that went into the decision but the main 2 were just too clear to avoid. From the day the doors opened at our Fan location we have easily been doubling and sometimes tripling our customer visits. This has had our tiny crew spread thin and we simply need to give all of our attention to Strawberry Street. The other point here is the very long term construction on broad street. While we know this is a situation that in the long run will be a fantastic thing for the area, we experienced parking and traffic complaints and problems from the start of the work. Which in turn meant less and less visits to Brook Road.
We will miss the neighborhood and neighbors of JW a great deal and our time at 312 Brook has meant so very much to us, to me specifically.
Idle Hands isn’t back from the holidays until tomorrow but you’ll be able to get your bread fix soon.
