Stone Expands Production – Richmond

Our BEERSTAGRAM picture below shows the tanks heading up to Stone. The article by Richmond has the hard numbers.

The new hardware puts Stone’s system at a 250-barrel brewing system – among the largest beer operations in Richmond. Comparatively, one of the area’s smaller breweries, Final Gravity Brewing Co., operates a two-barrel system.

Stone’s Richmond operation is on track to brew about 100,000 barrels, or 3 million gallons of beer this year, accounting for about 25 percent of the company’s total production.

Dogtown Brewing coming to Manchester – Dogtown Dish

The name of the brewery and the name of the publication aren’t just a happy coincidence. The husband and wife team of Michael C. Hild & Laura Dyer Hild own both.

The Hilds are making quite the impact on Manchester. According to Richmond, the couple has spent $4 million in and around Manchester. On the commercial side they’re developing The ButterbeanHot Diggity Donuts and now Dogtown Brewing. Dogtown Brewing will be located at 1209 Hull Street.

The Hilds are sharing a good number of details on the proposed brewery.

The first floor brewpub component of the brewery will be located in the old Thalhimer’s department store and will feature live music. A two-story brewhouse will be located in the rear addition of the main building. The brewhouse is designed to enable the brewery to offer 20 different beers all made on site, and a canning line for those who want beers to go. Many of the beers will be piped straight from tank to tap in order to avoid the need for kegs, similar to how many brewpubs operate in Europe.

The rooftop deck located on the fourth floor atop the building will offer 360 degree views including that of downtown Richmond. The rooftop will feature beer and wine on tap, a limited bar menu for food, and dim sum carts for featured items.

The brewery hopes to open late 2018 or early 2019.

Winter American Sour Blend release – Ardent, Thursday

If you’ve soured on this cold weather perhaps a beer to match your mood.

We’ll be releasing our newest sour beer, Winter American Sour Blend, on Thursday, December 14. We’re super excited for you to try this one!

Ardent’s Winter American Sour Blend is a barrel-fermented sour red ale cultured with our house strain. Amber-colored with a roasty aroma, this blended beer was aged in oak for 10 months and balances a malty sweetness with rounded tart flavors and notes of plum and sour cherry.

Available on draft and in 330 mL bottles. 6.9% ABV 5 IBU

Shake Some Action DIPA Release – Final Gravity, Friday

Hop to Lakeside to get your hops fix.

Shake Some Action DIPA is busting out at full speed this Friday. Calypso, El Dorado, and Citra hops are all you need to make it all right. Available on draft and to-go in Growlers and Crowlers.

Double Barrel GBS Release – Hardywood, Saturday

The Gingerbread Stout express train keeps on rolling along. The next stop is the Double Barrel GBS. All Aboard.

New in 2017, Hardywood Double Barrel GBS is a labor of love from start to finish. Our Gingerbread Stout is aged for four months in Caribbean dark rum barrels where it adopts sticky sweet notes of molasses and brown sugar. From there, the rum barrel-aged GBS is then transferred into bourbon barrels and aged for an additional four months, introducing notes of oak and velvety caramel. If you’re the one who goes straight for the biggest gift under the tree, this bottle is for you.

Keyser Gose Beer Release – Isley, Sunday

Brewed with Wheat and Pilsner base malts, Flaked Rye (for a bit of “spice”), Nomini Bay Oysters, coriander, and salt. The salt is added to reproduce the salt water found in Goslar. The oysters help contribute to the saltiness, add minerals to the water, and give the brew a subtle, complimentary oyster flavor. The result is a lightly hazy and light wheat beer (witbier) that is slightly sour with a slightly salty finish. The salt is mostly perceptible on the finish, more as a sensation than a flavor. Come grab a glass of the highly refreshing Keyser Gose!

We are releasing the Keyser Gose as part of our “Oyster Shellabration” with Nomini Bay Oyster Ranch, LLC!

RVA Beer Explorer’s Last Call

The RVA Beer Explorer is sailing off into the sunset but hopefully, you’ll like its fuzzy replacement.

The RVA Beer Explorer is throwing in his beer-soaked towel. The number of breweries and the beer scene of Richmond is awesome. Over the years for health reasons (nothing dramatic just self-realization about my intake) I’ve become less and less part of that awesome beer scene. As a result, I don’t have the passion needed to keep writing about beer every week so it’s time to say goodbye. RVAHub will continue to cover the big beer events and they’ll show up in their respective neighborhood areas or on the main site. We wouldn’t want you to miss out on some of the more unique events that pop-up.

Later today I’ll launch my new weekly post Critters of the Week. It will feature a picture and information about a wild animal spotted in the RVA area and an animal up for adoption by SPCA or RACC.

To my loyal readers out there I thank you for spending time with me each week and putting up with my many, many typos.
