Shop the Shed as part of the Main Street Station’s Grand Illumination this weekend

The newly renovated Train Shed will light up and open up for shopper this Friday through Sunday. Don’t worry the lights will stay, just the shopping goes away after Sunday.

Not all the holiday action is happening up at the James Center. Main Street Station’s Train Shed will be getting its own set of lights and opening its doors for a bit of holiday shopping.

Event details:

Richmond’s Crown Jewel, Main Street Station, will host its fourteenth weekend Grand Illumination and first ever Grand Illumination of the newly renovated Train Shed. Two more firsts will be the Grand Opening of “The Gallery at Main Street Station,” hosted by Crossroads Art Center, and the kick off of the “Winter Market,” hosted by Southern Grade.

“The Grand Illumination has become a Richmond holiday tradition,” said Mayor Stoney. “Bring your family and friends for a ‘grand’ taste of Richmond.”

This year, you can SHOP the SHED in 100,000 sq. ft. of floor area encased in glass. Come see Santa and watch the toy trains roll. Listen to Saxophonist James “Saxsmo” Gates, the Tuba Christmas ensemble and other musicians. Watch the Merry Elves Aerialist perform on Friday night or take in the work of Richmond’s art community. The celebration and all events are FREE and open to all ages.

Friday, December 1

  • 4pm – 10pm The Gallery at Main Street Station, Winter Market, River City 3 Railers (toy train display)
  • 4pm – 6pm Visit Santa, Enjoy Music by Saxophonist James “Saxsmo” Gates
  • 4pm -8pm Kids art activity “Body Tracing”
  • 6:00pm – Grand Illumination
  • 6:15pm RVA Tuba Christmas performs
  • 6:15pm – 8:45 pm The Merry Elves Aerialists perform
  • 6:30pm – 8:30pm Hundley Carriages, Inc. (horse drawn carriages)
  • 7:15pm – 10pm Doctors of Jazz perform

Saturday, December 2

  • 11am – 7pm “Shop the Shed” at the Winter Market and The Gallery at Main Street Station
    Entertainment throughout the day – The Noteables (Richmond Men’s Choir) and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church Choir and more.

Sunday, December 3

  • 11am – 6pm “Shop the Shed” at the Winter Market and The Gallery at Main Street Station.
    Entertainment throughout the day.
  • 2pm – 4pm The band Philmore performs in the Train Shed.
