Pleasant’s soon to meet unpleasant fate to make way for Whole Foods

Something old must come down for something new and filled with groceries to go up.

The last time we had anything to say about the proposed Whole Foods going into the old Pleasant’s Hardware spot was in March. Now we have an update courtesy of RTD. Permits have been issued to bring the beloved hardware store down. Actually, it was all the helpful folks at that Pleasant’s that made it so special and since they’ve long moved on bring on the wrecking ball.

Richmond building permit records show a demolition permit was issued Tuesday for work at 2024 W. Broad St., with S.B. Cox Inc. listed as the contractor. The permit covers demolishing the former main Pleasants Hardware building and a metal building in an adjacent parking lot on the site.

A land disturbance permit for clearing the land was issued Aug. 25, and the contractor for that work is listed as H.W. Blankenship & Sons Inc.

No word on what this means for an opening date.
