Tricky Gilbert Circus / Aid Our Veterans Fundraiser – Isley, Saturday
Any beer inspired by a lion being loose in Scott’s Addition sounded pretty cool to me until I looked up the story. The article on RTD explains that it didn’t end well for Tricky the Lion.
The lion was killed by Marvin “Scotty” Cramer, menagerie guard, with a rifle after James Flammia, of 3111 Grayland Ave., and half a dozen city police had emptied their revolvers into the beast’s hide and failed to stop the fury of its rampage.
Flammia, a sturdy and swarthy Italian barber, whose favorite sport is shooting birds and rabbits, incidentally sprang into fame as a big game hunter. It was Flammia who first pumped five bullets into the escaped lion’s head and body before the police took up the hunt and “Scotty” Cramer appeared on the scene and killed the beast with the “forty-four, ninety” rifle used by menagerie guards when there is a killing job to be done.
A tragic end for a noble beast that lives on as a Double IPA.
Inspired by an old story documented by Richmond Times-Dispatch of an escaped circus lion in #ScottsAddition, Isley Brewing Company will be releasing our 2017 Black DIPA, “Tricky Gilbert”.
Clocking in at 8% ABV, this American style Double IPA was brewed with ridiculous additions of juicy hops. Hopped 3 different times during and after fermentation, the high alcohol content is masked by the bright flavors and aromas of Citra, Mosaic, Pacific Jade, El Dorado, and Idaho 7. American Ale Yeast provides a clean finish, with a lingering hop bite. ROAR!
We will also be raising money for Aid Our Veterans, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization working to help homeless and out of work veterans of our military service. They offer a number of programs designed to provide aid to any veteran who may need help, most notable: housing, job training and placement assistance. They will be giving out hats, bracelets, and other tokens of appreciation for any donation received. Isley will be donating 10% of beer sales to Aid Our Veterans as well!
We will have live music all day from acoustic genius Chris Buerkley, local alt-folk group Wkndr and bluegrass and roots rock from Scattered Smothered & Covered!

2) Our brand new Triple IPA is our biggest IPA yet! Brewed in the New England style, this hazy IPA was aggressively triple dry-hopped with Vic Secret, Loral, Citra, and Mosaic hops for a ton of juicy hop aroma while maintaining super low bitterness and a pillowy soft mouthfeel. 9.4% ABV, 6 IBU
Spit Roaster Imperial Brown Ale w/ Pineapple Release – Lickinghole Creek, Saturday

Spit Roaster Imperial Brown Ale with Pineapple, 8.5% ABV
We love a good spit roast as much as the next guy, so what we’ve done is recreate the taste by using smoke malt. To complement the smokiness, we added pineapple juice in the kettle and finished it with fresh chunks of pineapple for a solid punch of island goodness that gives you a nice smoky fruity nose, with a dense mouthfeel. If you close your eyes and turn on the sound machine – you’ll swear you’re eating ham and pineapple while drinking a beer – in Hawaii…or Goochland.

Refreshing German Wheat Beer that is high in carbonation, dry finish, & fluffy mouthfeel. 4.5% ABV/14 IBU
Tart Cherry Cider in cans – Buskey Cider, Saturday

Buskey Cider is rolling out its Tart Cherry Cider in cans on November 11th, the first flavored cans that the cidery has released. The cherries used in the Tart Cherry lend this cider its signature blush color while complementing the apples to create a bright and refreshing cider. Buskey was the first 12oz six pack of cans released in Virginia and has seen great excitement about adding the Tart Cherry Cider can to their already popular semi-sweet cider, RVA Cider.“This cider has been a fan favorite since we opened, and we’re pumped to be distributing it in cans!” says founder, Will Correll. Correll opened Buskey Cider at the age of 26 in last April in the neighborhood of Scott’s Addition, described as Richmond’s booziest craft beverage neighborhood. Buskey is an all American word that was written down in a letter by Ben Franklin detailing what the young people in the taverns were saying during colonial times, when cider was overwhelmingly the most popular alcoholic beverage. Buskey Cider is made with 100% Virginia apples, which comes from Silver Creek and Seamans’ Orchard, located in Nelson County.
