GO DO THIS

5th annual Alumni Charity Challenge – Hardywood Craft Brewery, Wednesday

Drinking beer and helping feed those in need is a good way to spend a Wednesday.

Details from RamNation:

The 5th annual Alumni Charity Challenge will be this Wednesday, September 20th from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Hardywood. This yearly fundraiser is aiming to collect 20,000 pounds in food donations for FeedMore, a local organization which provides hunger programs to help provide food to central Virginia’s most vulnerable residents.

There are 30 schools participating this year, some of which are VCU’s biggest rivals (oddly, University of Richmond is not participating). If you attend and donate, you will be given a limited edition pint glass and shirt (while supplies last). However, if you wish to donate online, you can visit the donation page, select VCU in the drop-down, and send some cash to a great cause. Here’s the donation link: http://www.feedmore.org/alumnicharity

You can RSVP to the Facebook event page here.

Take the Fight Night – Garden Grove Brewing, Friday & Saturday

Garden Grove is hosting a Friends and Family Benefit supportingTake the Fight to Cancer is a national nonprofit that trains top University students to work with cancer patients, helping them navigate the complex healthcare system and reducing barriers to high-quality cancer care. They exist so that NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE!

On Friday they’re tapping a special release of their Dark Belgian Abbey Ale. This beer is made with Petite Verdot Grapes, Aronia Berries, both of which were selected for their Anthocyanin properties, and fermented in red wine barrels. A portion of every Dark Belgian Abbey Ale sold will be donated to Take the Fight!  Then at 8 PM the music kicks off with Third Rail

The support continues on Saturday the 23rd from noon to 5 PM. Representatives from Take the Fight will be on hand with Raffle Prizes and information about their organization and how you can help. Again a portion of the proceeds will go to Take the Fight!

Pickled & Fermented Festival – Center of the Universe, Saturday

Pickling doesn’t just apply to the lowly cucumber. You can pickle nearly everything and the folks at Center of the Universe are hosting a festival to celebrate all that you can pickle and ferment. Let’s hope it doesn’t go full Portlandia.

Pickle Lovers Unite! The Artisan Pickle Club is hosting Pickled & Fermented – a celebration of all things pickled and fermented! We’re talking more than pickled cucumbers here – we don’t discriminate when it comes to pickled things. Pickled fruit, pickled veggies, hot sauce, kimchi, BEER, Kombucha… if it’s pickled or fermented, we’re celebrating it!

Join us at Center of the Universe Brewing Company for a day of pickle tastings, live music from Ashland’s Buckeville Hootenany, a pickle themed beer and loads of pickle shenanigans!

Activities include:
– Announcement of our 2017 Pickle Competition Winners (enter here:http://www.artisanpickles.com/#pickle-competition)
– Pickling and fermenting demonstrations
– A pickle juice drinking competition
– Pickle sampling
– All the pickle fun you could ever have in one setting

$5 gets you a pickle pass for sampling all the delicious things. Once your pass has been stamped by our vendors, you can use it to vote for your favorite vendor. It’s also your entry into our drawing for fun prizes!
