It’s never too early to think about your weekend beers and beer related activities. Here’s what we see going on in Richmond this week.
GO DO THIS
Plant Nite – Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, Wednesday
Drink beer, eat hot dogs and get dirty with a little planting.
Just follow along while our Party Host guides you step-by-step through the featured project in about 1.5 hours. If you’re feeling creative, change the design to suit your whim.
We provide all the planting supplies: a solid container, soil, plants, rocks, decorative elements, smock, music, and a good time. Come out early to enjoy dinner before we get started, just let them know you’re with Plant Nite. Secure your seats 15 – 30 minutes prior to start time, especially if part of a large group. Podium Happy Hour Fundraiser – Triple Crossing (Fulton), Thursday
Podium is dedicated to giving Richmond high school students the opportunity to explore their passion for the literary arts while improving upon essential writing and communication skills. You won’t be surprised to learn that Podium is always in the need of a little cash. Having a few beers can help.
Join us on Thursday, August 24, for a Happy Hour Fundraiser at Triple Crossing Brewing to help Podium raise money for our Fall 2017 programs! 5% of all draft sales benefit the writing programs Podium will have in the RVA Metro area this year.
The event takes place 4 – 10 PM, and happy hour specials are 4 -7 PM! Drink good beer, meet great people, and support a good cause – all at the same time!
Circle the Wagons BBQ Cook-Off/Concert Benefiting Circles – Center of the Universe, Saturday
Beer and barbecue are a match made in heaven. COTU is having a mini-bbq festival with five different smoked meat slingers. That will give the strength to brave I-95 for a few minutes.
Round up your friends, family, and neighbors for the inaugural Circle the Wagons BBQ Cook-off and Concert benefiting Circles Ashland. 5 BBQ vendors, 2 awesome bands, and 1 great cause are all you need on a summer Saturday. As an added bonus, we are bringin’ back 2 beers just for the occasion, Main St. Virginia Ale and Treat Yourself Session IPA! There will be 50/50 raffles, great silent auction items, and other unique items to raise money for this great cause. There will also be kids activities on site. The event is free to attend and all the details are below!
CIRCLES ASHLAND
Circles Ashland is a local non-profit offering relationship-based, community-driven initiatives that inspire, inform, and equip individuals, families, and community to resolve poverty and thrive.
An Evening with Ardent & the Nobile Brothers – Union Market, Saturday
If you can’t be troubled to head to Scott’s Addition for a taste of Ardent head to Chruch Hill instead.
Ardent Craft Ales‘ Greg Self will be slinging samples 6-9 p.m., and we’ll be pouring their Rye Kolsch, New England IPA, Robust Porter and Dry-Hopped Hefeweizen until they run out!
Plus, local favorites, the Nobile Brothers will be playing live on the patio 7-10 p.m.
And while you’re here, don’t forget to try the Pastrami Bomb, our featured sandwich for RVA Sandwich Week, running August 21-27!
NEWS
The new kid on the block has a distribution deal. Väsen Brewing Company opened last month in Scott’s Addition with a focus on farmhouse styled ales. If a brewery wants to make money they need to get the beer to the people with a distribution deal.
RichmondBizSense.com has the details on Väsen’s deal to move more beers to the masses.
Vasen Brewing Co., which opened in late July in the redeveloped HandCraft building at 3331 W. Moore St., began a distribution deal last week with Hop House Distribution and has sent kegs to 11 local restaurants.
It introduced four beers since opening, all of which are being distributed: a smoked farmhouse ale, sour saison, vanilla dubbel and passion fruit saison.
DRINK THIS
Charlie Barley IPA Release Party – Isley, Saturday
Three bands and a food truck will take part in the release of the latest offering from Isley. But what you really want to know about is the beer. Big nose, big flavor, but a balanced bitterness. Look for notes of Orange, Green Pepper, Melon, Lemon, Lime, Pineapple, and resin in the flavor and aroma. Â 7% ABV \ 45 IBUs
The Release of Apollo Double IPA – Final Gravity, Friday
Final Gravity seems to be releasing new IPAs 24/7. I’m not complaining just noting that it’s a wonderful time to be alive in Richmond if you love the hops.
A brand new 8% ABV DIPA lands at Final Gravity this Friday. Brewed with Apollo, Mosaic, and Amarillo hops – you’ll find yourself in orbit surrounded by citrus and tropical flavors that will take you to the far side of the moon. Your mission: Enjoy.
