RVA Beer Explorer Weekly Picks

RVA Beer Explorer Weekly Picks

The week stretches before us. A long winding road. A winding road full of beer and beer related activities. Here is where we’ll be traveling.

This week is American Craft Beer Week so there is no shortage of beer related activities. Here are our picks.

LET’S DO THIS

Special Cask Release & Meet The Brewer Stefan McFayden – Three Notch’d Brewing Co RVA Collab House, Tonight -Tuesday

Making beer is not easy. Find out exactly how hard by talking to a Three Notch’d Headbrewer.

Every wonder who makes all of these delicious recipes you’ve been tasting? Well now’s your chance. Our RVA Headbrewer Stefan McFayden will be on hand to meet and greet , answer questions and will be releasing his very 1st cask!

Stefan collaborated with Mary Morgan our Headbrewer in Hburg back in December to make this deliciously strong and balanced Imperial Porter “Route 33”. This baby’s been aging and getting smoother every day and Stefan is adding some Coconut & Coffee into the mix. Don’t miss out on this as it will be the only cask of this variation available and it is incredibly tasty.

Go Go Vegan Go Pop Up – The Cask, Thursday

In my travels I see a variety of food trucks. Vegan food trucks are a rare breed indeed. So when I see an event that features a vegan food truck I take notice. Swing by this Thursday to get a bit of tasty grub while partaking in The Cask’s extensive beer list.

10th Annual Jonny Z Festival – Hardywood, Sunday

Celebrate the creative spirit of Richmond and the life of Jonny Z. Jonny Z was well-known in Richmond creative circles and passed away suddenly in 2007. The festival is a fun, free, kid-friendly event. Hardywood and ART 180 present a variety of children’s activities including a moon bounce, face painting, various art works and music. Vendors from Bizarre Market showcase local arts and crafts, with 10 percent of all sales benefiting ART 180. Since this is happening at Hardywood you’ll also find plenty of beer.

Choosy Mother’s Day – Isley, Saturday

If you haven’t tried Isley’s peanut butter porter Choosy Mother you really should. Don’t be put off by the peanut butter. It’s a tasty beer and Isley is hosting a day to celebrate. Music, food and a few vendors to go along with your beer.

DJ Lonnie B & Kelli Lemon’s Hip Hop BINGO – Strangeways, Friday

If you like music, bingo, and beer you’ll be in heaven at Strangeways this Friday. I haven’t been to this one but I know that in other versions you listen to music and when you hear a specific artist or song that is on your card you mark it down. Get a row filled and you’re a big winner but you’re already a winner because you’re drinking beer and playing bingo.

Seats are first-come, first-serve. Doors at 5:30p. 1st game starts at 6:30p. Get there early to grab some food, a beer, and to claim your seat. Food trucks will be slinging grub all night long and cold craft Strangeways beer will be flowing.

It’s FREE TO PLAY! Cards will be given out to the first 200 people in attendance. Bring your tablet and log on to the BINGO app created for the event (details will be released to those in attendance) to also play online!

Mark your calendars for our upcoming dates of 6/12, 7/10 and 8/14 (2nd Mondays) and meet us at Strangeways!

NEW BEER TO DRINK

Ardent is releasing their Berliner Weisse on Saturday at 12. A truly summer beer.

The Berliner Weisse is pale, cloudy, and effervescent, with a thick white head. Sourness dominates the aroma, with notes of lemony tartness. Light body and high carbonation complement the clean sour flavor with notes of citrus, and a low ABV allows the wheat flavors to shine through. 3.2% ABV, 4.5 IBU.
