Trail Marker

Just a piece of cast off stonework but it always captures my imagination.

My house sits not far from the James River. In the past the riverbank was busy with granite quarries. Buttermilk Trail which runs along the river meanders through evidence of a few of these quarries. Every time I walk past this particular piece of stonework I ponder its story and how it ended up here. A little trail landmark to countless bikers and hikers.
