A call for river loving artists

Richmond Department of Public Utilities has launched an online “call for artists” to submit designs to be painted on downtown storm drains. The RVAH2O Storm Drain Art Project uses art to send a message to RVA citizens about how important it is to keep our streets, sidewalks and waterways clean and pollution-free. The deadline for entries is Mon., Apr. 17; the entry portal is http://www.rvah2o.org/storm-drain-art/.  See attached news release, which provides criteria for submissions and more.

This is the 2nd year of the RVAH2O Storm Drain Art Project, which initiated in April 2016 and garnered 55 submissions from local artists. Five were selected to be painted on storm drains along Tredegar Street; another drain and artist was selected, for a total of 6 drains that were painted in June-July 2016. If you walk along Tredegar Street today, you can see them. See also  http://www.rvah2o.org/2017-winning-entries/
The drains to be painted this year will be in a NEW downtown location along the James River, to be confirmed soon.

One of last year’s winners, located near Tredegar Ironworks.
