BEER CAVES

The topic of the Richmond beer caves seems to come up in many conversations over beer. There is even tale of a ghost of spilled beers that haunts those that are wasteful of their beverage. (There totally isn’t a tale but there should be and if you come up with one please let me know.) The subject comes up enough that most beer heads know about it but we are obligated to read every article that mentions the caves so here is the latest from Style Weekly.

The caves, blocked by chain-link fencing, officially are listed at 4920 Old Main St. and overlook the boat slip at Rocketts Landing. They were originally part of the James River Steam Brewery, built in 1868 by D.G. Yuengling Jr., son of the founder of D.G. Yuengling and Son — a brewery still very much in business in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Richmond’s 19th-century brewery operated under steam power — hence, its name.

VALENTINE’S DAY CUPCAKES AND BEER

Alright those of you that dropped the ball on this silly holiday. If your sweetie like beer and cupcakes let them know you have planned something special and take them to Triple Crossing‘s Fulton location and get cupcakes and a flight of beer in a special pairing. If you sweetie doesn’t like beer and cupcakes go there anyway and find a new sweetie because there is something wrong with your current one.

BRING ME A BEER

Sometimes it’s just way too much work to go to a brewery or beverage store to get a super fresh beer. Lazybones can rejoice or just quietly nod your head to save energy. Flight is a service that will deliver you crowlers of beer. The service which isn’t operational quite yet but is should be flying towards you soon.

Richmond BizSense.com has the details.

Teachey said Flight initially will deliver from one brewery at a time, and will change the brewery every two weeks. He said Flight will deliver beer from Triple Crossing and Final Gravity upon launching, and plans to add different sizes of cans, larger growlers and more breweries to its client list.

The delivery radius for Flight will be about eight miles of the city center, Teachey said. Flight plans to both expand its delivery area and collaborate with other state breweries to bring new beers to Richmond.

STONE BIRTHDAY

Stone Brewing Richmond is celebrating their 1st anniversary in Fulton this Saturday, February 18th between 11:00AM – 10:00 PM:

What better place to show off our revolutionary spirit and latest Richmond-centric collaboration than St. John’s Church, where Patrick Henry famously announced in 1775, “Give me liberty or give me death!”? We teamed up with Ardent Craft Ales, Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and even his excellency Governor of Virginia to brew Stone Give Me IPA or Give Me Death, an india pale ale brewed with hops, raspberries & blackberries from Virginia!

This beer will be headed across the country for national distribution starting today. But if you find yourself in RVA on Saturday February 18th, please join us for a special celebration and appreciation of our east coast home, with special guests from the St. John’s Church Foundation (think Patrick Henry himself!) and other local partners Lamplighter Roasting Co and Mountain Culture Kombucha.

At 1pm we will tap a special cask with the help of our friends Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. A portion of cask proceeds will go to the St. John’s Church Foundation to help preserve and maintain our historic neighborhood landmark. A portion of other draft sales will go to the Neighborhood Resource Center of Greater Fulton, which does so much for so many in our community.

Come One! Come All!
