A mere sip of the local beer news, but a quality sip. Not so much that you can’t drive but enough to make you think you can dance.

SIERRA NEVADA RECALL

If you have any Sierra Nevada in your fridges you’ll want to go check them out. The brewery has issued a voluntary recall for select Sierra Nevada beer including Beer Camp Golden IPA, Pale Ale, Sidecar Orange Pale Ale, Tropical Torpedo, Nooner, Hop Hunter, Otra Vez and Torpedo Extra IPA in 12-ounce bottles.

The reason for the recall is in their words, “detected a very limited number of bottlees with a flaw that may cause a small piece of glass to break off and possibly fall into the bottle, creating a risk for injury”. The recall is across 36 states including good ole Virginia.  If your beer has the code of “M” (Mills River) and not “C” (Chico), on the packaging or shoulder of the bottle, you probably shouldn’t drink. R= BAD C=GOOD. If you have a bad batch go to sierranevada.com/qualitymatters.

ARDENT RELEASES A GLUTEN-FREEISH LAWNMOWER

I say freeish because while the new beer called Lawnmower has gluten levels well below the FDA “gluten-free” labeling regulation of 20 ppm, the beer is put in kegs, lines, and produced in a decidedly non-gluten free environment. So bottom line good news for those looking for a gluten-reduced adult beverage those with serious gluten allergies and/or celiac disease should discuss with their doctor before partaking. But what about the beer?

The Gluten-Reduced Lawnmower is clear, with a golden straw color and medium white head. Cereal grains on the nose lead to a crisp, light, clean mouthfeel and flavors of biscuit and rye. A refreshing, light-bodied, and easy-drinking ale.

The Lawnmower will ready to cut down your stress this Saturday when Ardent releases it into the wild. River City Wood Fire Pizza and River City Kettle Corn will be on site if you have a hunger. I have no idea the gluten status of either one of those vendors.

CHAMPION BREWING OPEN

Champion Brewing has opened their spot at 401 E. Grace. There was no grand announcement just the usual sneaky soft opening on Friday, with this Facebook post:

Hey Friends,

I cannot believe but after hours in city hall today, we finally got the go ahead to pour you some delicious beers. The space is still in progress so forgive our mess.

We will be doing another soft opening tonight starting around 6pm. I will post everyday what our opening time is looking like while we finish up this soft opening period. Keep an eye on this page.

Thanks again for all your patience and support. See some of you tonight.

Yours truly,
Champion

Over the weekend they posted their hours. Live music was also part of the scene on Saturday, so we’ve all got another spot to put stuff in our mouth-hole and ear-holes.

Monday thru Wednesday 5:00pm – 9:00pm
Thursday 4:00pm – 11:00pm
Friday, Saturday 1:00pm – 11:00pm
Sunday 1:00pm – 9:00pm

DOLPHIN DAY AT FULTON

Let’s be honest I really just wanted to say DOLPHIN DAY AT FULTON. It brings to mind images of dolphins leaping from the James River and frolicking  about as they thanked us for all the fish. Well it turns out my interpretation of what DOLPHIN DAY AT FULTON means and Triple Crossing’s interpretation are vastly different.

Triple Crossing’s interpretation involves a stout and a Friday release.

Named after Russia’s infamous maximum security prison, this deep, rich imperial stout was brewed with serious amounts of roasted barley and dark brown sugar. The result is a lush, full body of roasted flavors guaranteed to warm you to the core. Perfect for when you find yourself visiting Siberia. Just be careful not to land yourself in the beer’s namesake.

We’ll have 16 oz 4 pack cans available of Black Dolphin RIS and Clever Girl IPA. There will also be multiple variants available on draft as well.

Variants –
– Single Sourced Coffee
– Coconut
– Double Dry Hopped Clever Girl
