Do you enjoy freezing your tail off for charity? Like the annual game of predicting how much snow we’ll get? You’re in luck! We’re teaming up with Special Olympics Virginia for a snowfall total challenge.
Guess the total amount of snow we’ll get this weekend and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a Plunge Pass!
A what pass??
The Polar Plunge, dude! It’s all anyone awesome is talking about–jumping into an outdoor pool in the middle of winter! It all benefits the Special Olympics, in case you’re wondering why anyone in their right mind would agree to do this! And you should be one of those agreeable people!
What you have to do
- Know that we’ll be using the airport’s official snow total measurement (which often varies from the city!)
- Fill out the below form before the snow starts to fall with your guess
- Sit back, admire your snow pants, and we’ll let you know if you won when we are back in action on Monday!
What you can win
- Free Plunge Pass (normally $100)
- Polar Plunge T-shirt
- Beach ball
Friday Cheers Preview: Car Seat Headrest with Gold Connections
The final week of Friday Cheers brings together one of 2016’s most well received acts as Car Seat Headrest headlines, with Charlottesville rockers Gold Connections starting the evening off.
The final week of Friday Cheers brings with it one of 2016’s most well received acts to add the cherry on top of this incredible two-month concert schedule.
Charlottesville natives Gold Connections will take the stage first to lay the groundwork for a concert that will linger with you until next year’s Friday Cheers lineup is announced. They bring a methodical and nuanced approached to radio-friendly rock and they’ll likely be a band whose album you’ll look up immediately following their performance (if you aren’t already). Here’s “Faith in Anyone” off of their forthcoming EP:
Finally, rising stars Car Seat Headrest, who have been making the rounds on late night T.V and the festival circuit, will descend on Richmond to close out a fantastic season of music. Hailing originally from Leesburg, VA, the band’s 2016 record, “Teens of Denial” sat near the top of countless “Best Albums of 2016” lists last year, and for good reason. Their haunting melodies adhere themselves to your inner ear and leave you deciding to just leave the album on loop for hours on end. Take a listen to “Drunk Drivers / Killer Whales” below and try your hardest not to replay it over and over again for the remainder of the day.
If you’re not excited about this monumental lineup after reading this and sampling a few tracks from the featured artists, you might want to check your pulse. This is going to be an amazing summer for live music on Brown’s Island courtesy of Friday Cheers. May 5th can’t get here soon enough.

Prove how well you know Richmond with Click that ‘hood!
According to this map there are 148 definable neighborhoods in Richmond.
Until a few moments ago I was pretty confident in my Richmond geography. My confidence was destroyed by Click that ‘hood! Richmond Va. Hit that link and you’ll be presented with 20 random Richmond neighborhoods that you need to find.
They give you a little help by highlighting the 20 but it’s still amazingly hard. Well amazingly hard for me anyway. Full credit (blame?) to Sam Davies @MrBeefy on Twitter for pointing this challenge out. The game is by Code for America. Code for America use open code/data to bring make government work in the digital age.
This was my latest attempt.
The Final Score
(in my defense I lost some time taking a screenshot)
If you’re truly a masochist find a city in which you used to live on the main Click that ‘hood! page and realize that memories truly are fleeting.
Up for a game? Post your best time on our Facebook page for a shot at a pair of Friday Cheers tickets for the Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Sleepwalkers show on Friday, June 16th!
