Richmond DPU is hosting a Biodegradable Bag Give-away. Sunday, Dec. 11th, 1-4 PM. Byrd Park Round House. You only get 5 bags per household and I.D. will be checked so don’t be a bag hog.

Head here if you have any leaf related questions about when they might be picking up in your neighborhood. Don’t forget that heavy rain can throw the schedule into ruin.

Throughout December and January, DPW will host Neighborhood Leaf Clean-up events from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in neighborhoods that traditionally have a high volume of leaves. During the events residents can dispose of up to 20 bags of leaves. The leaves must be bagged and ready for removal when City trucks arrive. The dates and locations are as follows: Grounds Management

  • December 3: Stony Point, Woodland Heights and Windsor Farms
  • December 10: Westover Hills and Forest Hill Terrace
  • December 17: Worthington Farms and Woodhaven
  • January 7: Bellevue and Laburnum Park
  • January 14: Ginter Park and Washington Park

During the events and during a neighborhood’s vacuum collection residents can dispose of up to 20 bags of leaves. The leaves must be bagged and ready for removal when City trucks arrive. The remainder of the year six bags will be removed on regularly schedule solid waste collection days.

Of course there are alternatives to sending your leaves to the landfill. You can compost those suckers. Personally I take great joy in using my mulching lawn mower and chopoing ’em up into bits. Fell the wrath of my Toro you darn tree droppings.
