The caretakers of Reedy Creek, the Reedy Creek Coalition are vehemently opposed to a city project that is set to occur to Reedy Creek. Opposition feels that the plan as it stands would not achieve the goal of stopping bank erosion and improving water quality. In fact they feel the plan was selected out of convenience and will overall be detrimental to the health of Reedy Creek.

Reedy Creek sits between the 4th and 5th City Districts. Most City Council candidates, including Council-Elect Kristen Larson (4th) and Parker Agelasto voiced their opposition to the plan during the election. Councilman Agelasto is following through with his campaign rhetoric and meeting with fellow plan opponents this Friday at Maldini’s (4811 Forest Hill Ave) to discuss the next steps  and prepare for the Council meeting on Monday

Letter from Reedy Creek Coalition representative.

On Friday, Nov. 11th, Parker Agelasto will meet with neighbors opposing the Reedy Creek Stream Restoration at Maldini’s at 1 PM.  We will be discussing and planning for the City Council Preliminary meeting and the official Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 14th, where Council will vote on Agelasto’s Resolution to postpone a vote on the DEQ $635,000 grant to pay for half of the Reedy Creek project.  If they do not accept the resolution, they will vote on accepting the grant.

Reedy Creek Coalition met with DPU staff, Rosemary Greene, Grace LaRose, and Bob Stidel last night to discuss common ground.  The meeting was civil and informative, but DPU wants to move forward with the project to earn the EPA TMDL credits required into 2023 (date question) though the project may have no positive effect on the James River and the Bay, but earns the credits on paper and satisfies the EPA demands.

Both DPU and the Reedy Creek Coalition are open to additional discussions with a mediator.  Mark Rubin from VCU was an unofficial mediator last night, but gave comments at the end of the meeting.
Reedy Creek Coalition will be speaking against this project at the City Council meeting next Monday, Nov. 14th, 4 PM Preliminary Council meeting and 6 PM official Council meeting.  Our new Council representative, Kristin Larson, plans to be at the Council meeting.
Please plan to attend the meeting with Agelasto this Friday and come to the Council meeting to support Reedy Creek Coalition and the Forest Hill Historic Designation Committee on Monday evening.
